Fuuuuuu. So I got this level 2 recon mission with tons of cruisers/frigates and a few battlecruisers decided to duke it out. Down to the last 5 targets and all of a sudden I can't seem to hit anything. Some bar labeled misc kept showing up on the enemies, which I now think was tracking disruptors (would be nice if whatever was affecting me wasn't called Misc >.< )? Anyway, went from almost having millions of isk worth of goods/salvage secured to losing my Omen T.T Sucks being poor too. I could be flying a harbinger if not for only having like 10 mil isk : ( I know this is noob stuff, but I lack other people to talk about playing with.

Just do Recon 1 of 3, level 2 or 4, in a shuttle. It pays out way more than it should because people get their ships blown up time trying to fight enemies that aren't worth the trouble. Blitz it and you'll be on to Recon 2 of 3 which has enemies that aren't anywhere near as tough, although I just blitz that one too.

As for the Misc thingie, usually there will be little icon on the overview showing you which enemy ship is doing it to you and what kind effect it is.

The Arazu is also great for tackling and holding one ship until the DPS arrives. Use sensor damps to shut down the response long enough for your main to show up and then get out with the Zu. Martimus has a harder time with his Zu because he is blood-thirsty and likes to watch the target explode.

If you are actually going to fight, sucking the cap dry is a great ability and I like the Pilgrim.

I could have just ran to the gate in my cruiser, but I saw I could take them until I started not hitting the last 5 guys. I died while trying to move in closer to get a better shot or something (still didn't work).

Yeah, if you look at the losses on the killboard, it looks like I fly the Arazu all the time. The truth is that I just die in it more often than the other ships I fly. I am starting to do better though, probably because I am getting better at flying the Pilgrim, and the Arazu has similar tactics just at a longer range.

Something weird has happened, my EVE client's CPU use seems to have shot up. Dual-boxing is slow as molasses now, and everything else on my computer slows down when EVE is running. Very annoying, might need to do a reinstall.

Maybe. I fired it up briefly this morning and it seemed to be running normally again after installing the patch. If it starts acting oddly again I'll just reinstall the client.

I had a couple of frustrating engagements yesterday. First one was my Drake vs. a Cyclone. Both ships were down to structure before I got popped, very annoying to lose that fight. Later on I took on another Drake right outside of a station in null-sec. We were pretty evenly matched until I had my alt show up with a Blackbird. I immediately had the upper hand, but the guy stopped shooting at me, recalled his drones & managed to run out his undock timer just as I was getting into his structure. He docked and I lost my kill.

The Drake/Blackbird combo seemed to work well enough though. I've seen a couple of solo battleships & command ships in my area, and I'd love to lure them into a fight with my Drake. Not sure if I have the DPS to break a command ship's tank though.

I killed this Damnation last week with a 200 DPS Pilgrim and similar DPS Rapier. http://nawti.evekb.co.uk/?a=kill_detail&kll_id=1717323

He was running an incursion solo, and I managed to get a good warp in on him and we decided to try taking him down. The tank was still really hard to break, and it took us about 20 minutes to pop him. He had a buddy show up in a Falcon as he was entering structure, but unluckily for him, drones don't stop when you are jammed, and they finished off the job before he could warp out.

That said, command ships generally have very good tanks, especially if they are going to be solo. The reason he died was because I nueted him and he ran out of cap boosters. Then it was a slow burn through his >100k EHP with our measly ~400DPS. It almost felt like we were running a plex trying to kill a tough rat, since the fight lasted so long.

The funny thing is that this guy lost another Damnation about 3 hours later, after he continued to run the incursion sites. Although that one was just him fighting a rat that was too tough for him, and a frigate tackling him keeping him from warping out.

Someone in the alliance asked if I could help them by scouting a gate they had set up cans to decloak cloaky haulers, and on my way down there with my scout, I found an Orca jumping in and out of a wormhole to close it. I started probing the wormhole out, and there were 8 stupid signatures to go through. Lady luck was not on my side, as I happened to pick the 7 signatures that were not wormholes first. I finally found it, and when I warped there, the orca pilot just jumped out, but this time in a Buzzard. After looking for him for probably 15-20 minutes, he picked now to be more cautious after seeing him jump in and out 4 other times in an orca.

Anyway, I don't feel like telling the rest of the story, but in the end I got nothing, and I didn't even steal fizzy lifting juice.

Not directly EVE related, but it looks like my performance issues had nothing to do with the EVE client. Turns out my GPU's fan has gone out :-/

Thanks. I've managed to rig a temporary solution, no cooling problems will keep me away from EVE!

I have never been part of a 0.0 blob. I have gone in smaller "wolfpacks" of maybe 5-6 or medium sized fleets of 20 or so in 0.0, but nver been in one of these 200 man fleets. I was in a 200 man fleet in low sec to defend a POS, but that is the extent of it.

I have the opportunity to join in on one of the wars going on, and wondering what the people who do these wars on a regular basis think about them. Should I join in and try it out, or is the lagfest that comes with 4-500 people in a system unbearable? As reference, I usually fly in fleets 10-20 ships large.

I quit the 0.0 alliance I was with over a year ago now so I can't speak to what exactly the conditions are now, but I'd guess not much has changed. Essentially, you just turn off ALL graphical candy, set to a decent (but perhaps not native) resolution, and zoom all the way out with the camera. Then it's still usually an ultra lag fest (both server and client side). It's worth doing once or twice just to say you've done it, and to see what it's like to have 500 pilot engagements, but honestly, I hated it.

Have you been on Sisi? We've been testing, and they've made a ton of improvements. I just participated in a test that involved like 400 people and lag was minimal. Sure I was getting about 4fps, but I was in a siege dread so it didn't matter. Module activate was only delayed about 5 seconds.

Nope, haven't tried large scale on Sisi. Honestly, I've been out of living in null for awhile now and probably wouldn't go back either way, but it's good to hear things are getting better.

Martimus,

I would go do it. Huge fleet fights are part of Eve being an MMO and you might as well try it. I have several times.

Michael/Martimus,

So, I just finished reading all 93 pages of this thread about 2 days ago, currently browsing through the 800page pdf guide as well as many of the posts i saved from this thread in the Mining/Missioning/PVP/Various topics categories. I am interested in starting up an eve account or maybe (2) of them, one of them to start flying/fighting/pvp, and the 2nd one to learn skills for a month or 2 before doing the same thing, like a scan/probe and pvp ship combo. Do you all ever get on vent or similar and have time to discuss how best to go about this in terms of fitment in your corp--if interested, ofc?

JStorm,
are you still offering your 50mil credit deal for referrals?

thanks!

lagfest, can't load grid and lose 100M ship that ends up a KB with your corp name on in it... unless they are paying you or giving you access to moon goo or excellent space not worth it.

Cheers,
