You can join one Erwos, trial is fine
I'm betting that is their public channel

Thanks for the overview Canai, you think I could start those now? Will I need special probes/skills?

I'm 27 days from assault frigs
only 6 days from T2 autos tho.

The corp is Crystalline INC, and yep that's the pub channel. Not sure on our policy with trial accounts, but you're definitely more than welcome to come hang out in vent and run some missions and whatnot. I'll add you and drop you a message after class and work tonight.

I fly a Catalyst all the time. It has 4 tractors and 4 salvagers. I use it after my Domi has killed all the rats. You bookmark the location, go to your agent and complete the mission and then come back in your salvaging Cat. For PvP, they're only good for killing frigates (including T2 ones).

Gal has 2 main paths. You go drones which is Vexor -> Myrmidon -> Dominix or you go blasters which is Thorax -> Brutix -> Megathron (Hyperion).

For missions, the Dominix is the superior ship. For PvP, most people prefer the Mega but I fly a neuting logistics Domi and get a great amount of kills with it.

Haha Shrike (alt character of Bob/Kenny's leader Sir Molle) just lost his 4th Titan, and to add insult to injury it was mostly to goons.

For ships with 75 drone bandwidth (Vexor, Myrm) the highest damage combo is two heavy drones, two mediums, and a light. However the heavy drones will have trouble hitting smaller ships so thats the ideal loadout for going after say battlecruisers/battleship hulls. I recommend the Vexor over the Thorax for PvE work because the Thorax's microwarpdrive ship bonus is pointless for mission running (cant use MWD's in deadspace)

Remote rep or neut Domi FTW! With my char I skipped the battlecruisers entirely, going straight from the Vexor to the Domi.

My main reservation for using a Catalyst for dedicated salvaging is that, since I have two accounts, I run the missions with one and have the other in my Salvage Tackle rigged Hurricane actively salvaging while the mission is still in progress. If there's a spawn, I don't need to warp the salvager out right away - even without a tank on it, it can take about 10k damage before I need to start aligning and warping.

I realize this isn't an option if you're missioning and salvaging with the same char, but the Salvage Tackle rigs are 100% worth it and I'd never fly a salvage boat without them. Kinda hard to fit rigs that expensive on a Catalyst

erwos - I was afk when you were on last night, and I got back just in time to see you log off but I'll be on tonight running level 4's in Alkez for Ammatar Fleet. I should be home around 5:30 CST(CDT? Never got those straight) - 2330 server time - and should be online shortly thereafter. It's 30-ish jumps from Jita, but it's a fairly quiet system with no ninja salvagers and little lag.

They also lost at least 2 CSAAs, with baby supercaps. I think in a few days we're going to see the sov map in that area start to change... Goons are going all in there, giving up their holdings in the south to try to take Delve.

I think so far we've blown up 5 CSAAs, but of course if you ask Kenny they will tell you none of them were cooking anything - even though they threw away a few hundred billion worth in ships trying to defend them.

Which alliance are you in? (Sorry if I missed where you said so in the thread)

I'm not politically affiliated and nor am I participating in the war, but I've generally been anti-GBC ever since the T20 scandal, where their arrogance really showed through. I've chatted it up with Goons in local, and my experience with them is that they tend to be weird and fun, and have their own ways of saying and doing things.

Yeah, Kenny is in full damage control / morale boost mode.

I think I'm gonna start playing EVE a bit, tried it before but never got into it, but I can't really say I gave it too much of a chance either.
I managed to buy a...ship of whatever kind, Destroyer maybe, went on my merry way into some 0.5 system or whatever it was, and immediately got killed by some ah heck in a huge ass ship, which pissed me off and concluded my career

Anyways, I figured if I'm gonna give it another go, maybe I should actually try to get it right from the start this time.
Any general handy advice for a person that is for all intents and purposes a complete newbie? Last time around I remember getting confused right around the time I entered the character creation section.
I seem to remember reading some guide, but the writer seemed to mostly assume that the reader had some kind of idea about the whole thing, which wasn't quite true in my case, to say the least.
Oh and is there any "AT alliance" or some such that one can join without the need to spend enormous amounts of time playing? Could be nice to have someone to chat with, not to mention someone to bug for advice.

And yeah, if this has been brought up earlier in the thread, sorry, but I got home from 2 hours of badminton a while ago, and I'm really way too tired to read 300+ posts right now

To my knowledge there is no AT Corp in the game, but most of us (if not all?) are in some corp. I'm sure some of the corps would welcome new members as well. I'd recommend getting started in Factional Warface (FW) if you're interested in PvPing. You can generally meet a lot of people/learn a lot of things early on if you jump into fleets and get rolling.

Ah, that looks excellent.
Oh and just going through the character creation deal again reminds me...am I the only one who thinks the chick that does the talking and explaining sounds really creepy?

She's just a watered down Shodan.

Right now I'm essentially just mining and building isk. At some point I'm going to want to go back to 0.0, in some NPC region. I have a carrier and a dreadnaught, but really don't want to do POS sieges or cap ship warfare.

im pretty much living the dream right now. my friend quit the game a while back and gave me a 500mil trinket from his dragon like hoard of treasure and ive just been flying pvp ships. Of course since Kenny and their pets wont engage anything even resembling a fair fight my pos busting battleship hasnt gotten so much as a scratch yet. We even jumped into a huge gatecamp - one where all of us jumping in had probably almost a minute of grid loading lag and were completely vulnerable but they bugged out to their pos.

Uhm, I'm not involved in any 0.0 fights. However, I do read scrapheap and COAD and everyone including most goons will acknowledge how Kenny is completely out-blobbed. The "Coalition" has an absurd numbers advantage, so to paint it like even-fights = kenny is afraid/loses is a bit unfair. You guys definitely deserve kudos for the energy with which you have attacked Delve, but to try and pretend it is an even numbers game is a bit disengenuous.

im talking about like Euro prime time when we have maybe a 150 ship fleet and they have a 150 ship fleet sitting at a pos, and probably 50 other gankers scattered through the region, and huge numbers of caps and supercaps gathering dust. They should have no problem defending and repairing towers during a 8 or so hour stretch every day but they arent even trying. And generally they tend to have HACs and Command Ships backing up their BSs while we still have a lot of cruisers and newbees in frigates. Without being able to use their Titans protected from hostile capitals by Cynojammers they lose most of their willingness to fight. Sure in US prime time I dont expect them to fight, but right now at 7pm Euro Time they just watched us blow up another pair of Capital Ship Assembly Arrays.

And frankly if Bob didnt want to get blobbed maybe they should have tried actually helping their allies when those allies were in a jam and facing annihilation (LV, Fix, RISE) instead of just promising them assistance and staying docked in Delve. As much as everyone on CAOD and scrapheap seem to hate the goons we sure have a lot of friends - probably because we dont leave them out to dry.

If either of you guys are interested in getting out to 0.0 in a not-too-massive but still decent corp, the one I'm in is currently talking with several alliances about where we're going next. We've got just over 100 members with 10-30 active at any time, and we use vent. We also have a very strong industrial base and are joining an alliance who understands that.

We also have a fairly active PvP element, but right now we are stationed in lowsec since we just left our last alliance. I'm not all that old of a player (been playing for about 6 months or so) but I'm sure some of the Directors would be more than happy to chat with you and give you an idea of what you could do with us.

I'm fairly certain we know which alliance we're going to, but it's been hectic lately. POS's being pulled down 24/7 and jump freighter and carrier jumps nonstop over the past week tend to stress everybody out

So, I'm starting to get back to where I left off last, so far sans the part about getting blown up by some big fucking ship.
This is pretty much when I start wondering what to do next...I've done the first storyline series of missions, and thus I got myself a Kestrel, and I've mostly been working on the various learning skills so far.
The problem is, I have absolutely no idea how to stake out some kind of reasonable path forwards, doing missions works I suppose, but gets rather monotonous fast, getting some more of that story line stuff would be nice for a change, but if I've understood the tutorials and such right, those will show up by themselves as you progress, and you can't really do anything to get to them any faster than that?

And, this whole corporation business, again I'm fairly clueless, not so much with what it's all about, but rather about expectations and such.
For example, Canai, what you spoke of sounds nice and all, but in my view, 0.0 and a 1M SP newbie with a Kestrel doesn't quite seem to mix. Of course, my view probably makes beer goggles seem like divine clarity by comparison.
And those Goon fellas seemed reasonable, with the minor problem that I don't have an account at SA, unless they count accounts from the last century(password forgotten and email address long gone most likely ).
Checking the recruitment forums it seems like lots and lots of corps are recruiting people with >10M SP, and I managed to find one corp that from their own description seemed to do...well, nothing pretty much, but I guess I can do nothing on my own.

Oh and I've managed to scrape together a bit over 1M ISK, and I've seen people mentioning that cruisers are mostly a waste of time(or was that destroyers?).
I could go buy myself a Destroyers book(I have the skill preq's), and then a few missions to be able to afford a ship and some weapons, would this be a wise investment, or is there some reason I'd just end up with an expensive pile of space junk?

Ah interesting I didn't know that about the euro timezone. Regarding the blobbing I completely agree, and personally don't mind seeing Kenny go down in flames. However I thought your posts seemed to indicate fairer fights that what I had been reading about (Mainly commentary from a PL member).

I joined into GS with 900k SP and started PVPing that night. No reason you can't join a good corp as a new character, in fact if you DON'T you'll get burned out on pubbie PVE boringness like the vast majority of people who try EVE.
