Red Storm - I would never use a railgun fit for PvP. PVE is all about runnign your tank flat out and wearing the rats down. An Astarte is a gal blaster boat. So for PvP you kill them before they can kill you. I go for an OK tank and more damage in that case.

Michael

(btw - a megathron, which is cheaper and can be insured, usually beats an Astarte in a 1 v 1 fight)

Ok, I think I'm going to re-sub tonight. Is there an AT corporation I should join? Not looking for any handouts, just somewhere social to be

Oh I know, I'm just playing my character according to his bio (rich pompous ass), so I pretty much only fly tech 2 ships (shuttles being the obvious exception).

I asked the same thing earlier, no response. I'm looking for the same thing as you.

That sucks, FlasH

I made a new character last night. A Caldari something. I love the skill queuing system!!! I remember turning my volume way up while i was sleeping so I could hear when a skill completed so I could get up and train.

How do I re-do the tutorial? When I made my character it auto put me in a docking bay.

there's no AT corp, everyone's all over the place, at least there's only 1 server though.

Sunner and I are in T-RET

(t-ret public chat). Corp leader is Reynolds.

my only real advice to noobies is whatever you do, specialize specialize specialize. spreading your skills out too thin just wastes your time.

Is there a limit to how many skills I can queue up? or could I theoretically queue up a years worth of learning?

I've made this offer before.

My corp is newer player friendly (as long as you're not a trial character we'll consider you). Look up Myrdin Potter in game.

We're in a PvP Alliance in Amarr low sec (near the Eve gate). Plenty of fighting and good level 4 agents in high sec close by.

Out of curiosity, is there a way of making your congrats private? IE when viewing the information on someones standings screen you can click "contracts" and view their contract history.

Only a few days left before my sub expires again. I'm going to ghost train until it won't let me anymore (I hear 3 to 5 days from expiration). Then when I have money I'll be back.

Unless of course anyone needs a trial key and plans on subbing - then let me know so I get get 30 more days for free.

If anyone cares - my month-old Ammar miner happily is flying a retriever, is about a month out from driving a hulk, and pulls in about 1.5m ISK every 20 minutes in mining.

What really gets my goat though - the ore prices are totally out of wack! Why is the cheapest, most common ore worth more than the heavier/rarer ores by a 4:1 ratio? Like omber is pretty much worthless. The only higher end ores that are worth anything are the last two pretty much, which are worth considerably more than veldspar. To top it off, pyerite is way devalued. It just doesn't make sense to me.

You can only set skills that are due to start within the 24 hour skill queue.

Veldspar is 0.1 volume if you just mine and sell. The other ores take up more space.
The less you can fit and have to drop off (if alone) in the time it takes to fill (yield of lasers/strip miners) = less profit. Mining is all about isk/hour not how much cargo space you have.
If you have perfect refine skills then you make even more.

Omber itself is not worthless if you sell near mission hubs that require Omber deliveries. Like I said, perfect refines if you are mining to get the minerals.

It is also easier to reprocess mission loot to get the more expensive minerals than go to low sec or 0.0 for the high end ores.

The queue will start new skills for up to 24 hours. But the last skill it starts can be of any duration as long as its going before you hit a full day. For example right now I have a 16 hour skill, then its gonna start an 8 day skill.

Hehe.. I switched corps the other day, and one day after joining we get a 9 person Lithuanian griefer corp filing a wardec against us. This'll be interesting, given that most of my new corp are noobs and carebears. Time to break out the pvp ships and fire up TS...

Your corp's best option would be to wait it out. Professional wardecing corps know what they are doing and they know how to pick people off when they least expect it. Giving them more targets to shoot at just encourages them and motivates them to leave the war dec on your corp longer. Remember it costs money to war dec and sustain it. If they get no kills and have to keep on paying for their war dec they'll eventually get bored and move on. What they want is ISK by extorting/ransoming your corp and targets to shoot.

What skills should I focus on first? I want to mostly do mining, crafting and maybe super basic mission runs. I don't plan to PvP at all, though I may buy a second ship to go out and mess around with some.

Best race for being a trader?

Not sure if this was already answered, but i don't believe there is a best race anymore because of the recent changes to starter system.

Best starting trader used to be minmatar sebestor because they could quickly jump into a probe(best newbie trading frigate) and they also started with decent trading skills. Best long term trader was the caldari achura because they had good starting stats which resulted in faster overall trainig times later on.

Right, now, you start with virtually no skills, but have a 100% boost to training time untill you reach a certain amount of SP. So I guess you are free to choose whichever race fits your play style. There might still be differences when starting, but they are probably not very significant.

PS: Don't know if this bears any importance to anyone but it has been personally tested by me that a newbie character which just started out, CAN make over 400 million isk in his first 3 weeks, with a starting capital well below a million! I am NOT a pro trader - I consider myself to be well below average, and my math skills are horrible, so if I could do it anyone can. The only thing you need is at least 6-8 hours a day free or semi free(for modifying orders every now and then). My trading was done by a combination of buying/selling in same station and hauling from one station to another. All this was done in a probe, which goes to show you that many people who always strive for a bigger, better hauler, are deluded. Only get a bigger ship when you really know how to utilize it to max potential, if you notice yourself making trips while quarter to half full, sell this ship and go back to the probe where you belong.

I'm really trying to get into understanding EVE trading since it would be great to do during downtime at work, but I'm having a rough time wrapping my head around the fundamentals of how to avoid constantly being the victim of someone elses large-scale market manipulation. =/

I finally started this game last night. I can honestly say that I have almost no idea what I am doing in the game. I am a Gallente Immigrant, but I don't really know what that means.

Is there anything you can suggest for me to get a handle on how to play the game? I just went through the initial tutorial and flew back to the starting base and logged off.

Races and lineages mean pretty much nothing now since they changed the way you make characters now.

As far as learning goes - the question is what do you want to learn? Do the tutorials for the basics.

- If you want to know how combat works, learn about (google) topics like transversal velocity, signature radius, tracking speed, optimal range and falloff.

- If you'd prefer to go the "carebear" route (what I am), you want to look up topics such as mining (pretty straight-forward), refining, trading (buy/sell on the market), industry (manufacturing). <-- This route is quite a bit easier, but to be optimal you'll still need to know how combat basics work too.

- There's all sorts of subtopics besides those two "basics"... command, covert-ops, etc. Since restructuring the character creation in EVE, they basically give you a clean slate to do whatever you want to do. So the real question is - what do you envision your character doing 3 months, 6 months, a year, 5 years from now? There's nothing any one character CAN'T do... provided you train the right skills for whatever it is.

- Look up your race's ship types (or whatever race/ship you would like), see what bonuses they provide and direct your training to those strengths. (Again, slightly less important - you can train ANY race's ships, there's no penalty to do so, you get the bonuses based on your trained skills, not your race).

In the meantime, you'll want to either mine Veldspar in safe space or run level 1 missions to make some cash.
