I just finished watching the Rooks and Kings "Clarion Call 3" video on youtube (here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XrYe_4vHzgE ) and it reminded me of what this game used to be like for me; this is awesome stuff. I just wish I had the time and energy to commit to the game like that.

Yeah, really. That is just incredible. I wish I had the time to devote to EVE, not to mention the time to devote to getting into a position to be involved in such things. Nothing quite like it, even if I never made it very far myself in EVE.

What amazes me is that we (the Alliance I was part of and lead) actually fought against R&K for years. They certainly are the net isk winners, but we won our share of battles, and were pretty much the only low sec Alliance that actually fought them to a standstill.

They are good PvPers and are not complete jerks win or lose which makes them much better than almost any other group we foguht against.

Yeah, they were probably the third best group we fought in my opinion. Invicta showed that they were better in that they won every fight against R&K, but the true people I was impressed with were BALEX. I dont' think I have won a single battle against them, which always perplexed me. Sure they wouldn't jump inot horrible situations, but even the ones where they held a minor advantage, they would win disproportionately. Even so, I am a much better FC now than when I fought them then, so I don't doubt that I would win my share now.

EDIT: Mostly I mean I am far better at planning out how to disguise my true force, but have enough to make it seem like a good target to engage for their entire fleet.

Of course this was what started the rivalry. Before this, we only fought on occasion. After this it became a nearly everyday thing.

They always fit with heavy faction fittings, while we always fit cheap T2 fittings, so we would often win the isk war in our fights.

EDIT: I forgot this one too that re-escalated our fights. We baited them into dropping another triage, and killed it.

Invicta were jerks and was full of whiners. We did manage to beat them a few times as well and the whining in local was pathetic. I agree that BALEX were good and classy.

Michael

ps - we had fought R&K for quite a while before the Alliance Tournament fight

Oh, I agree that Invicta was full of whiners, but I can't remember a single fight between R&K and Invicta where R&K came out on top.

I know that we beat them quite a few times. Whenever certain FCs were active, we would usually win.

BALEX always impressed me with their class and skill. They knew what they were doing, and had a nice close knit group of people who grew up in the game together. While we had some of the best pilots in the game in our alliance, our problem was always that we weren't as tight knit and fractured often.

Oh, here is a complete list of changes (it is a LOT):
T3 BC's
New Background Images in space
Engine trail effects back
New texture/shader engine for ships
Time Dilation (as systems get congested, time slows down to allow fleets to warp/jump into system without being picked off 1 by 1 as the server processes the requests)
New captain's quarters updates (based on station faction owner)
New/different T2 module blueprint drops from exploration sites
Lots of exploration site/complex/anomaly changes (increased loot/bounties/salvage)
Hybrid weapon rebalancing (less cpu, more tracking, less power, less cap, increased tracking (on some), increased damage (on some))
T2 ammo rebalanced (javelin (no cap penalty), javelin, quake, gleam (no tracking penalty, now a 25% tracking bonus), hail (no falloff penalty)
Some type of rebalancing of logi ships (no real details, just "bring them in line with other T2 ships)
Rebalanced destroyers (no real details other than "Your oversized Noctis will be commanding a bit more respect")
PI changes: 5x more bandwidth for links, Custom offices in w-space/null/low-sec can be destroyed and replaced by corporation owned stations with adjustable taxes (with custom tax rates based on standings with player/corp/alliance), increased size of storage at customs station, and tweaked UI interface at station
UI changes: "loot all" added, a "jump" navigation (like "dock" but for wormholes, bridges, gates), "scoop to cargo/drone bay" now will move your ship into position as well
Drones will attempt to return if you warp off (i.e. they will automatically receive the "return to bay" command when you perform the warp command, but that doesn't mean they will return in time, but it they are simply orbiting or close by, they might)
Session timers reduced by 10 seconds
POS fuel changed to "fuel blocks" 1 block hour for small, 2 for medium, 4 for large. Fuel bays changed slightly so that all normal towers have approx 29 day fuel (faction towers get bonus on fuel bay size, but lose previous bonus on consumption rate). Power/cpu no longer affects fuel consumption rates. Timers for setup/takedown of POS have been tweaked.
Implants will now show in pod killmails
Blueprint type (original/copy) will show in killmails
Fitting limit raised to 100
Setting orbit range now on a per ship type basis (instead of per character)
New fonts for chat/context windows
Doomsday/cyno visual effects changed
Cap ship rebalancing
New DED complexes
Updates to tactical view (bomb range/explosion size will show, missile range will show)
Fitting window finally show DPS (including drones), CPU/powergrid will now show how much you have remaining

As well as some other tweaks...

Basically, finally giving players some of what they want as opposed to the last few updates. Now if they would just give POS access/storage permissions some love.....

Now that I have lost my interest to play the game, they have stepped up and corrected most of the minor bugs and quirks about the combat portion of the game. I wish they would have done this a couple years ago, as I don't see it really affecting me much now.

Looks like a step in the right direction. Still don't have the urge to return yet, but still training my guys anyways. It is always nice when coming back after a long break and you have a character that can do so much more than last time you played

^^^ agreed with the last few posts. It's about fucking time they started paying attention to what players have been wanting rather than what their finance department has been wanting. They can make a truly awesome game if they want to.

To be fair, I think CCP has being moving in this direction for a while. While this update has done the most to fix long term problems with the game, other recent patches and updates have to a lesser degree as well.

Yeah, I am still "unsubbed", but I have been paying with PLEX. They seem to be going back in the right direction. As I stated when CCP posted the mea culpa a few weeks/month back, I think the backlash actually got through to the bean counters, and they are now finally doing what the player base has been asking for. Hopefully this trend continues. As I stated before, I would love to see some more love for POS management/control/access, maybe a new storage/hanger unit which allows specific player only access. Tradeoff being a loss of 50% of the storage, but lets you assign hangers/storage bays to individual people, who can then give password access to others if they want. Think of it like a bunch of secure containers, but big enough for 10 bays which can store 2 battleships (1,000,000m3 each bay).

Keep in mind that they didn't do shit until they got such an incredibly negative reaction from the Incarna "expansion" (expansion that offered no new gameplay whatsoever).

Actually I think this goes back to before Incarna, like how they removed learning skills and revamped missions so that combat agents only give out combat missions.

Yep, this is my favorite thing about EVE. I really haven't been active for the past 3-4 months, but my accounts are paid for at least the next 4-5 months with PLEXes, so I just keep 'em training. I'm hoping this next expansion, then the release of DUST in the spring breathes some life back into EVE. We'll see.

It wasn't the bean counters, it was their CEO overreaching. He put Eve way down on the priority list. Incarna was all about features for other games they wanted to release, for example, and it made Eve worse. Eve spent about 2 years releasing no real new content and maybe some bug fixes.

So I swore I was going to quit for a while, but it looks like the new expansion makes exploration a lot more lucrative. I wonder how that's going to pan out.

Well, I put in my application for another W-Space corp. One of the other main people in my current/old corp already left and joined them, so I just followed. Havn't heard back from them yet, but hopefully will tonight. It is and isn't an upgrade. They have a C2 static C4 with a high sec. So we will get a lot more traffic through us (compared to the C4 static C4 we previously lived in). But the easy access to high sec for getting loot out is very nice. We just need to be a little more active and be sure to put up more bubbles. Nothing like snagging lots of noobie explorers in warp bubbles in a C2 that they think is "safe".

I am now in the new corp. Last night I started getting all my stuff ready for W-Space life again. I went searching through my existing gear that I own, and stumbled across 3 tengu hulls that I forgot about (always a nice bonus). They didn't have the subsystems, but I had several spares already and just needed to get defense and offense systems to get 2 more ready (well, rigs and another caldari navy ballistic control system, which really shot up in prices lately, I bought 7 or 8 a while back at 72-75mill each, but I was one short from fitting the tengus, and it cost me 110m now).

I also got 2 more drakes fit up and ready. I should pickup a onyx or broadsword, and definitely need a pilgrim. I need to get a caldari transport ship for my hauller alt as well (but need to get him set to blue first).

Since my old alliance finally broke apart after being with them for nearly 3 years, I decided it was time to try something new too.

I joined a 0.0 corp, and so far it is pretty meh. I just wanted to try it out, and it seems that all the newbies live in 0.0, since people regularly do stupid things there that people would never do in low-sec.

That said, I really want to try this out for a few more months before moving back to low-sec.

Newbies are everywhere to be honest, or really it is more like stupid people are everywhere.... If you get bored of 0.0, go into W-Space. It is a lot more exciting if you ask me. No local to warn you that someone scanned down a connecting worm hole to your system and jumped a fleet of 30 people into it. You are constantly watching/updating the system scanner watching for tell tales like probes (but if they know what they are doing, they will use their passive ship sensors and track you down if you are in a normal site and not an anomaly).

You never know when you jump through that worm hole if you are landing on camp because their isn't another route to go around to get to that system. They will immediately know that someone entered/exited the wormhole as there is a wormhole flash/fire, so you can't just sit there cloaked like you can as you enter a gate waiting out the timer and sneaking your way back into range of the gate. So they will be actively searching about trying to find you (and the space that you appear is a LOT smaller with wormholes, I think max distance to exit is 5k, so a couple cans/bubbles can pretty much decloak anything as well).

I really want to get back into this game. There is something about it that keeps attracting me. But where to start? I think the last time I played was in the fall of 2008?
