What? We dont slay dragons and use magic in real life?

What? Zelda isnt real and small italian dudes don't save little princesses?

OMG YOU MEAN I'M NOT REALLY A SPLINTER CELL????

Damn my world just crumbled. I need to stick to real life now

Disclaimer: Apparently someone missed the whole point of FANTASY GAMING and GAMING in general.

Disclaimer2: I don't play EQ, i actually hate the game. But i don't pick on the people who do cause I'M the pathetic LOSER who doesn't understand people have different interest and hobbies outside of my egotistical self centered world. Let others like what they like.

Your right, It's fun to call names and spot the losers!

I don't know what the fascination is with this pos game either. I have friends (that I rarely see anymore because of it) that are absolutely hooked on it. They tried to get me involved, but it just doesn't interest me.

Negative. There is no ending to this game. As far as i can tell you just run around killing things and that's it. They just keep expanding the worlds and making them bigger. That's probably the main reason i hate it. There is no actual goal in the game. Unless it's to get the biggest and best weapons that everyone else already has? I dunno, but camping 10 hours to slay some dragon or whatever to have it drop something that a team of 6 people have to share....just sounds so-not-fun to me.

Evercrack...

I know alot of people who play it religiously but I'm glad that I have never gotten into it cause it seems way too addictive.
I've never even watched someone play it which is probably a good thing (and I have a free trial of the first disc too but I didn't give in and try it out)

I'm not missing the point of fantasy gaming. In fact I enjoy gaming quite a bit. I can't tell you how many hours I spent in college playing the original Doom, Quake, or Warcraft. The difference is that it was never my life. There are EQ players here that go home for lunch so they can play, and then they run home after work and jump on the game and play 6 or 7 hours before they go to bed. Hell one of the guys here moved into a hotel with high speed access for a week just because the cable company was putting new fiber in his neighborhood and their cable modem access would be down for 2 days. He acted like it was the end of the world and he would die if he couldn't play EQ for 2 whole days. Oh the horror. Sure it's fun to play games as a hobby, key word being HOBBY, but from what I've seen of the majority of EQ playing people I know it becomes their lives.

As a long time MMORPG player, I can say one thing with certainty:

If you don't like the game, life does go on.

Why people feel the need to waste their time bashing things they don't like is beyond me. "Hehehe, you have no life because you play EverQuest!" you say as you download Yet Another Half-Life Mod(TM). If the RPG genre isn't your style, it's not your style. I hate CS for various reasons. Doesn't mean it sucks. It means I don't like it. May very well be the best FPS out, for all I know. It just simply doesn't appeal to me.

Sort of like the entire "Suchandsuch singer sucks, dude!" Odds are, what you're really trying to say is you don't like that kind of music. Oh well. So what if you don't like Classical music. Doesn't mean that Bach sucks. It means your taste in music says Bach doesn't appeal to you. Same with games, same with food, same with cars, same with everything.

The early game in EQ is annoying. It's hard to really start enjoying the game until level 30+, where you're reaching the content the game was designed to deliver. Same with Ultima Online, Meridian 57, Anarchy Online, Dark Age of Camelot, Asheron's Call, Redmoon, Ragnarok Online, you name it. Don't want to learn Sense Heading? Don't learn Sense Heading. Don't want to get your Baking skill to Grandmaster? Don't get your Baking skill to Grandmaster. Don't want to play? Don't play. I'll be the "dork" in the corner playing EverQuest, or whatever game I happen to be playing that day. You'll be the "dork" in the corner killing terrorists, or killing whatever it is you're killing that day. Such is life.

Well that's good to hear. At least we now know that there are at least 2 people who play EQ who know what sex is really like. Most of the guys around here that play it think that a vagina is a monster that lives in the swamps.

yeah, like right now I'm spending all of my time trying to play that real-time RPG game called, "EmploymentQuest."

And does anybody know how to get past the first level interview with the middle-manager boss scene?

You came into the game very late so there is no way you can experience it like those of us did that started it at release. And the high end game does require you to play your class with some knowledge of tactics and skill that you don't see when you are a level 1 beating on moss snakes. So you don't enjoy it just delete your account and move on. There are a lot of us that do enjoy these games and I can say for me they provide a nice way to unwind and have fun with like minded folks.

Make sure your "sense heading" is high enough so that you can find the office.

And you get a bonus to your die roll if you have high personality and charisma trait.

Does that means using both hands and knowing the difference between it and a hole in the ground?

WHAT CRAP! Good lord the graphics suck ass, the game play is clunky, and the game is far too deep. Depth in a game is nice, but some of the petty tasks you have to learn just to play are crazy. You mean to tell me that I can be a grown man, practice magic or wield a sword in combat but I don't know how to use a compass? Give me a break. What I can't figure out is why there are legions of Uber nerds that live for this game and get totally wrapped up in it. Get the hell up from the computer, get out of the house, or your parent's basement, and go the freak outside and interact with REAL people. I know it sounds crazy but even though REAL people can't use magic, kill dragon's, or make you a boffo suit of armor, they are still very interesting and fun to be around. So come on lard ass, put down the 2 liter of Code Red, the super size bag of Doritos, and start living a life that doesn't involve dwarfs, elves, or scantily clad women who are really 60 year old male pedophiles.

admit it, you are an evercrackwhore and u like it

I can see your point. Maybe I am just jaded against the game because the people I know who play it have for the most part substituted it for their lives. Gaming is a fun way to escape for a couple of hours and I think that is actually healthy since it can help relieve stress. However the people that game, game, game all the time are in need of serious help.

Well, Im breaking long boycott of all non car or beer related threads in OT by posting this, but that's just fscking hilarious

As is "the mighty dragon Notgonnaevagetlaid" and "You might as well stop throwing little balls of tape at me and yelling "Lightning bolt! Lightning bolt! Lightning bolt!" because it just won't work man. It just won't. ", man you oughta start some site about this stuff

Oh and I agree by the way, I enjoy gaming, but really, some people are just ridiculous...same thing with the people who have CS training 10 hours a week on set times

Everquest is addictive for many reasons. Similar to Diablo 2, it has that whole "just one more level, just one more piece of armor" syndrome that keeps people comming back for more. But thats only one aspect. After playing a few other MMORPG's, i've found that another thing that made EQ so addictive was its social aspect. Most people who play EQ have a lot of good friends in game who also play. Yeah, its probably better to make friends in real life instead of in a fantasy game. But still, it can be a lot of fun to have friends across the US and across the globe.

I played EQ for a lot longer than I would like to mention here. Its not much different than the people who sit in these forums and post all day long, or the people who sit on their sofa's all day long and watch tv. Some might call it a hobby, some might call it addiction. But as long as it doesn't get in the way of life, there isn't anything wrong with it. Sometimes its nice to get away from life for a little bit.

I agree 100% with that. Problem is that most EQ players seem to be the type that become so involved in that game that they forget about real life.

Only a game like Everquest would people kill themselves over.

Here's an idea - to OT nefs, EQ whores, CS monkeys, and all nerds in general. I suggest a game called "NeverQuest" - because that's when you're going to find out what sex is like without having to give your credit card number or a wad of bills.
