EVGA 7800 GT question

Would I get better performance if I flashed my EVGA 7800 GT (486 MHz effective) to the newer BIOS (445 MHz) and then re overclocked it to 486 or whatever? I heard the extra speed is from some sort of 2D clock so it might not help at all.

PS is my 3D Mark score good for stock?

what was your score? should be between 7000-7500 roughly depending on your system

would you please look in Nvidia control panel->GeForce 7800 GT page and give me the bios version?

My score is 7361. 7800 GT, A8N SLI Premium, X2 3800+, 784 mb of ram. BIOS version is 5.70.02.13.01

that's a good score

the bios version you have is the original one that shipped with first round of eVGA 7800GT, basically it is an nVidia reference bios with no modifications at all

it has speeds of:
445mhz core + 40mhz geometric clock delta

1050mhz memory

so what you are seeing is not actually 486mhz core, it is 445mhz core + 40mhz clock delta= ~486mhz

imho you should go to eVGA and download newer revised bios for your card, version will be something like 05.70.02.13.7B

newer bios versions eliminate the 40mhz clock delta and move 2D speeds from 275mhz to 445mhz, otherwise it is basically the same as yours

Ok thanks for the advice. One thing though, my GPU ram is 1070 MHz not 1050.

I would definitely flash, though. The 40mhz delta seems to hurt more than it helps.

Arnt those all drivers? I couldn't find any bios's there except for mobo bioses.

I have the 7800GT CO (yes the 470mhz core one). So I would get the bios from that page? (I take it rev 2 would be the new one?)

no, go to Graphics Cards->Bios Updates-> choose model#

I wouldn't take one from MVKTech because they three that are up in the eVGA download files are all old. You can find the newest revisions in the thread marked "78000GT bios..." that is stickied at the top. They are way back on the last couple pages.

Great, now I'll load it up in Nibitor, set to 500mhz core and 580 memory and I'll be set.

NIce! take that clock delta out of the bios before you flash...just enter "--" where the "40mhz" was

the delta clock wasn't anything when i loaded it up (it was 0 i think)

So I guess this is the bios that fixes the delta clock problem.

Mine was 7428 with the 5.70.02.13.01 bios, and it dropped to 7262 with 5.70.02.13.8B (the newest one). Old core read at 486 and with the new bios reads at 445.

Can someone explain what the "geometric clock delta" is? Because losing it sure hit my 3DMark05 score...

overclock back to 486 Mhz and you will get better performance then before.

5.70.02.13.8B out of the box on mine= 445/1070.

Stock 3DMark05 of 7,690.
