Yep, you heard that right! I didn't even get to try out a game yet. I restarted my computer after windows updates and the screen got very big and pixelated. The computer booted into windows with the old windows vista loading bar then went to a black screen. I replaced it with my GTX 460 and no issues. I put the GTX 670 in my bulldozer rig and I get the big pixelated screen again. This card is dead. :'(

Time for a windforce version I guess.

Its high time someone threw one of these bay boys in a conventional oven ... what do you say ranger, 350 degrees for 10 minutes? Maybe 20 minutes just to be safe :hmm:

Just got off the phone with EVGA tech support. He said these cards don't have issues and I don't have a superclocked version so I can't step up either. I will be getting the same defective reference model back. I told him I was just going to return to Amazon and get a Windforce 670 and he told me to go ahead. lol

Oh well, looks like EVGA lost a customer.

It was at stock I presume?was it 670 SC by any chance?I heard EVGA is having issues with the 670SC and upgrading the users to 670FTW if they rma their card.

It was a standard reference model, and yes, it was at stock. Some are also complaining about the reference models as well.

yeah, when I took it out of the packaging a corner of the PCB chipped right off. I didn't even touch anything to make it happen!

*yawn* ok? What did you expect EVGA to do? Offer a GTX 690? Nothing is perfect but their SC did have legitimate issues. The reference design? Same as anyone else's reference design.

Again I say what I have said a lot...don't buy reference designs for the GTX 670. It sucks but what are you gonna do?

I asked them if I could pay the difference for the FTW model and they said no. I wasn't expecting a free upgrade. I just wanted to upgrade my reference model.

Getting a dud sucks but there is a certain percentage that'll be bad with any brand or model. Hopefully you used up your bad luck for PC hardware and won't see another dud for a while.

To be fair I am sure there's people trying to claim the non SC versions of their reference cards have issues too and trying to also get the free upgrade. I can only imagine being down on the CS chain telling people no all the time.

Sucks, but I had mobos that were bad, memory, GPUs, sound cards, HDDs, even had bad monitors (and don't get me started on why Newegg changed their return policy on them a few years ago).

This is terrible news. Hope you don't lose money on the return.

I'm definitely going to be wary of any problems with mine. I've already noticed that the screen has shimmered a few times on boot or upon installing drivers. Saw that with my previous card, and a reboot fixes it, but so I'm not too worried...yet.

Thanks for your post Rvenger... sure made me feel better when I canceled my EVGA GTX 670 on AMAZON...

Sucks that had to happen to you... I think EVGA had too much issues similar to you that probably overwhelmed them or you got a bad CSR...

What happened was I placed an order on Monday for the EVGA GTX 670 when I saw it back in stock, but by the time I completed the order it sold out and AMAZON said it will ship when available. Then on Tuesday night I saw the Windforce back in stock, so I canceled the EVGA and bought the Windforce... for the next two days I was discombobulated over the EVGA cancelation, but when I went to try to cancel the Windforce to re-order the EVGA when it came back in stock on Thursday, the Windforce had shipped...

Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't the Vanilla Evga GTX 670 uses the same reference PCB as the EVGA SC GTX 670 (They both look like a VHS tape)? If that is the case the vanilla one should have the same issues too, especially when trying to overclock...

I got my Windforce today and that thing is HUGE! Bigger than my GTX 570 I think... I'm busy watching the Lakers Game right now... after I'm done I will post pictures and try to run some benchmarks...

Destiny - I will be looking out for a windforce model for sure. I knew I should have cancelled this order to begin with.

Don - Please don't remind me of my mistake I am going with the Gigabyte windforce as soon as it comes back into stock at Newegg. Just my luck that I ordered new Scythe Slipstream fans for my computer and one of the fans make a clicking noise. Heh, I am having bad luck with hardware.

Termie- I noticed that shimmering issue with mine as well. Mine loved to throw a checkered screen for a split second everytime Windows would access the UAC. I thought it may have been a driver issue.

I might need your help overclocking to see if I hit the silicon lotto...
I'm not an overclocker (I'm a Noob) - I'm just going to do it for testing to post results for others on the forum...

Sucks that your card was bad but grandstanding over the phone and threatening to use a competing product is cheesy....

Besides which pretty sure none of those guys care if you switch to GBT.

any card can have problems, the point of buying from evga is that their customer service is there when you need it

my regular evga 670 has been rock solid (not defective lol?) and its running in an otherwise low airflow (read: hot) system

evga's warranty entitles you to the same product cross shipped, but that wasn't enough? cheesy indeed

Usually when something doesn't work i just rma it for a replacement. Odds of it happening again are slim to none. I have the windforce but never had any issues with EVGA. Im pretty sure EVGA made out by not having to deal with a drama queen anymore.

While its unlucky for the OP. Remember about 2-3% of all delivered electronics needs RMA. Plus if you have seen how postal, logistic companies etc handles packages. You would say its amazing its not more. Specially for HDs. Only CPUs are the one exception with basicly 0.0% RMA.

That's cuz only 2 companies make almost all the cpus that everyone buys. Monopoly has its advantages.

Evga=overrated.

Ref designs for more money. Pass. Got burned by them before and their shyster rma process. Better make sure you have invoices, receipts and blood from your first born before they'll even consider a rma.

Nah, its due to the CPU itself is very protected and no parts that can be torn off, bumped, cracked etc essentially. Its another benefit of the movement to SOC. The amount of parts that can fail keeps getting reduced.

RMA rates on CPUs have been close to 0 even when we had multiple CPU makers.
