Excellent foreign films?

I recently saw Downfall (German) and Brotherhood of War (Korean) and was wondering if there are any notable films up to this caliber that anyone might recommend.

Both were phenomenal movies.

It's a Norweigen film I believe. It's in their language, but you can find the DVD with subtitles. Awesome movie. Doesn't have the typical hollywood ending.

Three Colors (Blue, Red, White) were, to me, more enjoyable than Decalogue / Dekalog. Not "better," just easier to watch because they were less dark.

and at the discresion of my Indian friend i'm currently watching an indian movie called "veer-zaara" and its okay if you like romances....some parts in the beginning are corny but others are interesting

I concur with the Kieslovsky suggestions.

'Goodbye Lenin' is a recent german film making a bit of fun at the way of life in the old Deutsche Demokratische Republik. Excellent Film by Wolfgang Pertersen.

Lola Rennt is another great german film.

'And your mother too' (Y tu mamá también) is probably the best mexican movie in quite some time and a great watch too.

And of course, Tarkovski, though definetly not for everyone. My favourites from him are 'Solaris' (which was remade in Hollywood a couple of years ago...surprisignly the remake doesn't suck but the original is still much better) and 'Andrei Ruvliev', one of the boldest, strangest and best (if not the best) works of film ever created.
