If you really want to get into modifying cars and not be another statistic, do yourself a favor start saving up for the TRD supercharger for the 2AZ. It's easy to install in an evening or two, gives a noticeable improvement in performance and sound, and is offered by Toyota without voiding your warranty. Then you might even actually need that CAI and exhaust.
Resist the urge to impulsively act on that bug prematurely by wasting money on things that don't matter. The companies selling "mods" for cars like the Scions are bending you over with their $500+ mufflers and exhaust tips and intakes. The Scion line and it's catalog of mods was created to capitalize on the impulsive modding bug of young car enthusiasts and take away their hard earned paychecks.
Modifying a car without the proper time or money or planning is a big factor in creating rice. It's understandable that you are young, don't have money saved, and just got your first new car and want to play with it. Just be patient, we've all been there.
Non performance modifications on a budget 4 cyl are going to be considered rice by the majority of people unless it's a car known for it's performance like a MR2 or S2000 or MS3 or SRT4 or something along those lines were they might actually do something. You get a little bit of leeway being the Scion brand is marketed with young aspiring car enthusiasts in mind and offered with a catalog of factory customizations, but not much.
Fact: most cars come from the factory with "cold air" intakes which draw air from the fender, and replacing with an aftermarket "cold air" kit which is just a metal tube with an exposed filter in the engine bay for $2.50 in hardware store parts and sold to you for $300 is better known as a "hot air intake".
