Maybe you should have read some reviews and looked at anandtech bench before getting the 6950 as most forum members could have told you it was more of a sidegrade. For someone with nearly 1200 posts this is surprising but I guess the delta quadrant is a long way away so maybe the signal with the data hasn't reached you yet. Top end of one generation to second tier of next generation usually amounts to this. Sorry I'm not more helpful but researching the products next time would be the lesson to take away from this. Lol I just read you got the 1gb version -that takes the biscuit! The 5870 was and still is a good card, shame about your purchase I'd sell it and get a meaningful upgrade if I were you.
3D Mark scores are pretty reliable most of the times within a margin of 10% error or so.
They are synthetic scores
Yea Man Delta Quadrant have its own issues :whiste:Maybe you should have read some reviews and looked at anandtech bench before getting the 6950 as most forum members could have told you it was more of a sidegrade. Another things surprise me was score in Bitming
5870 easily do 400 some thing and 6950 (Unlocked) hardly break 350 M/has
I think 5870 was a better chip then 6950, as you have said I should have 7970 or 680 Nvidia.
No, Cayman is definitely better than Evergreen and has perfectly usable tessellation performance. It's just not a big difference. Performance wise it's like GTX480 vs 5870 without all the excess heat.
I would say more of a very little difference between 5870 vs 6950
Now when you said excess heat ? what you mean ? which one is hotter ?
Also in bitmining which is just an open cl 5870 perform much then 6950 !
See I was hopping difference would like 5870 vs 4870
When 58XX came it blew away the 48XX in every competition. O well bottom line I didn't paid enough attention to benchmark which may posted on many websites. Silly me :\

QFT. OP why would u even post about this? Its embarassing considering this is a tech enthusiast forum. If u read ONE review you would've known they perform essentially the same.

OP, you cant unlock 1GB version 6950, period...only original reference 2Gb models!
I didn't found embrassing in form or shape; perhap a different mind set :hmm:
Even if it was a common knowledge; for me it was not; and I share the experince and my learning curve:|
Lol-he's having a laugh-the only way to unlock your card to 2gb is to sell it and buy the 2gb model!
Why do I get the feeling threads like these are backhanded attempts in giving AMD's graphics solutions a bad name?
You're kind of asking that when you upgraded from a previous generation Camry that was fully loaded with leather, premium sound and sports suspension etc, to a newer model that's not top-of-the-line (cloth seats, manual windows, normal mushy suspension), why your driving experience hasn't susubstancially improved.
Fu(K camary; lets talk some thing which more substantial.
Lets say I buy 92 Year model TransAm (Last year for third Gen) which comes with 305 with basic OBDI computer, and it has produce wooping 210 HP.
Afterword I buy last year model off Nex Gen which is 4th Gen year 2002 with LS1 eng and OBD II not only is fuel economical it has produce 305 HP (Acutall the put out 325 at RWHP). Right there you have 32% more pwr full eng, Better Ride, better handling, better paint, better A/C, better stereo.
So see that is what I had in my mind. If you see difference in 4850 and 5850 you can't be disagree :hmm: can you ^_^
Horsepower ratings already tell you the LS1 with OBDII is economical and more powerful than what's in than your 3rd Gen TransAM. That's a benchmark in itself. (Actually a real benchmark would pit the cars together on the same track and look at the difference in timing)
You are expecting a gain based on model numbers alone (of the videocards). The 5870 had 1600 stream processors and the 6950 has 1408 stream procs, looking at the specs, it's amazing the 6950 has any performance gain at all (but of course tighter and more efficient architecture makes up for the brute power of just adding more hardware ie. a well engineered six cylinder can put out more horsepower and torque than some 8 cylinders) so in conclusion, what the hell were we talking about?
Around 40% most of the time.Take a look
