external enclosure for sata HDD?

i've been searching on google for a while now and i'm having a hard time finding an external enclosure for my newly bought 400gb sata hard drive.

does anyone know of any external enclosures that support a sata drive and will connect to the computer via usb 2.0 or firewire?

Uses a card instead of standard USB but it would work.

hmmm, reading around it doesn't look like they are even planning one. Maybe they will come out with a PCMCIA card version

I don't think that USB will allow the types of rates a sata hdd is capable of producing. Firewire maybe but not USB (maybe 2.0 on burst).

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't USB 2.0 capable of 480mbps at "Full Speed"?

480Mbit/s ~60 Mbyte/s. I'm pretty sure the only problem is that no-one has made a SATA -> USB/firewire interface. I doubt that this can't be done, but I don't think the demand is very high for those yet.

They do sell them, but they're pricey. I googled one down. I think the price difference was a wash when compared to using a SATA-IDE bridge and an IDE external enclosure.

well i bought a sata drive ... and now i need someway to connect it to the computer ... so i'm in a bit of a jam

where did you find this enclosure ? i found one by addonis for $60

also ... if i get a sata-ide bridge ... will that still fit in an enclosure?

this looks like it might work SATA to IDE bridge + External USB2 enclosure it will fit in. I suspect that if you get just about any 5.25" enclosure and the SATA to IDE bridge it would work.
