External Harddrive For Gaming?

If I were to buy an external harddrive, would it be possible to hook it to my laptop (Macbook Pro bootcamped to Windows) and run games off of it? Transfer speeds via firewire or USB 2.0 fast enough to achieve this? There's rather limited space on the laptop harddrive and this would be great for LAN parties and such.

Sure. USB 2.0 on the MacBook is plenty fast, even faster (or better efficency I should say) than the G5 towers.

As far as real world performance, on the Intel Macs I believe FW and USB 2.0 run about the same real-world speed. On PowerPC Macs, Firewire is faster.

If you have a 17" MacBookPro, get an external drive with Firewire 800!
