Yes.

Fully self contained (no power adapters required) and fast enough for what most people use them for.

DON'T BUY IT
here is what you do though
buy a a laptop hard drive and a USB enclosure for it
make sure th USB enclosure comes with the Y SUB cable
and thats actually all u have to do and you will not spend as muchmoney on it
unless you are rich and want the external HDD to look fancy then go on with it
make sure you have 2 USb ports open
you just plug them both in at first so it turn on then you can unplug one if you want
SEE A COOL WAY

YAH BUT WHAT ABOUT SOME KIND OF NAS UNIT?
It would provide storage for more than one and some even act as print servers.

Love my 80GB Passport. There's faster UBS/Firewire externals out there but the Passport is tiny and as others mentioned, requires no external power adapters. I mainly use it as extra storage for my laptop but also use it for larger files and hot swap it between my other 2 desktops.

I've read of some reports of drive failure on the earlier versions, not sure if the "II" versions in the black enclosures are any more reliable. If you can get one for $1 per 1 GB its a good deal. I got mine for $79 no MIR from BB about a month ago. There's been similar deals at CC and CompUSA, but they have a mix of IR and MIR to get to the $1:1GB ratio.

Check BB this week though, they're running 15% off all WD drives this week which might get you close to the $1:1GB range on any of the various sized Passports.
