External SCSI upgrade

I have an old external SCSI enclosure. It is a 6x4gig now. The thing is, it is 50 pin. I was wondering how hard it would be to upgrade it to a 68 pin. Or better yet 80 for hotswap. It's an old DEC enclosure. I don't have the modle right off.
Can I just change out the cable?

One of the following has cables for external enclosures that you may be able to make work for you - not too expensive. I think it's either SCSI4ME or PC-Pitstop.

OK, maybe I didn't word that right. It wouldn't be the first time. I already have the internal SCSI RAID card. It's an AMI Enterprise 1200. I was just hoping to upgrade an external cage array that I have. It has a built in power supply, so I think I am ok there. Maybe I just need to tear the thing open and see what it looks like on the inside. I figure it would be cheaper to do it this way insted of buying a new one at $200+. Thanks.
