Eye Exam?

So do they have any electronic devices, ie glasses with a camera on either side and a lcd screen on the other to transport the picture? Just curious. I have a friend who wants to join the Air Force, doh, and her right eye isnt really strong... She is like a few degrees away from passing it. Anyways, are there any really strong glasses? or some speacial camera thingy.
I told her to go get lasak but she said its not an option.

I am not sure... but I do know that the Air Force is very strict about eye sight when it comes to pilots.

does she want to be a pilot? do you really think that if her eyesight isn't good enough they'll let her wear a camera on her head to make up for it?

iirc military pilots can't have LASIK, probably because your eyes will explode if the cockpit depressurizes at 30,000'

I had a friend who was looking to get into the Air Force academy, he said that they've recently loosened the eyesight requirements a little to allow for for contacts and lasik in some cases. Not quite sure on the details for that though.

They are still very strict about it, so if normal eyesight correctives won't do the job, she's probably SOL.

No, your eyes will not explode. :Q

The reason is because older (standard) LASIK will give you "haloes" around bright lights at night, and that is not acceptable to the USAF under any circumstances. Wavefront LASIK does not give you any haloes.

The military (being slow, and bureaucratic) hasn't approved the newer wavefront technology as an acceptable solution yet.

I dont think she is looking to be a pilot, just wants to join that branch in general.

If she wanted to be a pilot, then no I would not recommend that she use a camera thingy to pass the test.

Anyways, any high-tech ideas?

Why? Wouldn't you entrust a 50 million dollar piece of equipment to a person with shotty eyesight and LCD's taped to his/her face?
