Seriously what is different at most other in and out oil change places. If you want quality service go to a local mechanic that maybe friends or family can recommend.

It all depends on the management, whether they put profits before ethics, this is the same in all businessess.

Usually those lube places don't actually lube your car... and they certainly don't lube you before they anally violate you

In all businesses, it's a balancing act. Ethics and profits aren't something turned on and off, rather, they're to be looked at an a spectrum

We should all learn from this to take your vehicle ONLY to your vehicle dealership. It might cost a few dollars more, but they have too much to lose (their franchise) to cheat people on an oil change. The few dollars you pay more will come back in safety. Why? Because they most always check every vehicle that comes in for Recalls. A recall is a free service for normally a safety issue. We had one lady with a Fiero come in for an oil change and stayed for 6 hours more so that we could do free recalls on her vehicle. Stay away from the quick oil change shops and the independent shops.

There is no spectrum here, they are violating the law. What they are doing is simply wrong.

Just listening to those monkeys speak makes my blood boil.

I'd be horrible at pulling undercover operations like that, because when they started telling me how my fluids were "burned out", I'd just start laughing.

I've never had a problem at the chain places, although I only go to 1 or 2 of them. I've never had anything but a air filter or wiper blades recommended for replacement. I guess this is more prevalent in different parts of the country.

Depends on the dealer. Some are good, some aren't. Not necessarily cheating you, but some just do shoddy work or aren't customer friendly.

I never take my car to those chain places. I've had too many experiences where they fvcked up my car.

I have a local mechanic I trust or I take it to the dealer. My wife's car goes to the dealer exclusively.

Oh man, just read the comments, it is priceless. Basically, you have half the people saying that they have never noticed a problem and "they treat me so well" with the other half saying they had a problem.

I wonder which makes a better slogan.

"Half the time we screw up your car."

Or

"Half the time we do the job right."

More sad is all the comments from people defending the company because they have never noticed any problems. Sorry, but if you have never LOOKED for them in the first place, that does not count. Oh, and there are also people defending the company saying that they are hurting the whole company when only a few stores were doing it. Uh yeah, 6/10 stores is more than a few.

Same deal here. I've only gone to Jiffy Lube to get oil changes. I dont think that I've bought any other package or ever been pressured to spend more.

Yep, I used one Jiffy Lube by my old house all the time and never had them try to sell me anything past the oil/filter change. It probably helped that it was my GMC 1500 which they surely see dozens of every day (impossible to fsck up). They were always cheap and quick.

I used to think that taking the vehicule to the dealer was the best thing to do. However after taking my van to numerous dealers, they where unable to identify the problem. On top of this, they got me to spend money on useless parts that they could not garanty would fix the problem. Additionaly, once the parts where installed they would not take them back.

I finaly took the van to a local repair shop highly recomended by everyone. They charged me $60.00 just to look at it but they identified the problem correctly (oxigen sencor) and fixed it on the first try.

Now my oil pan is leaking and needs to be replaced. Its going to cost me between $500 and $750. tuesday morning. I trust that shop to fix it right the first time.

They are more expensive but worth it.

Bottom line, its hard to find a good mechanical shop.

Seems a bit expensive to me for an oil pan change >_>.

My dealer schedules my check ups for me and gives me loaner cars to use. I don't mind, but I guarantee the loaner won't be as good as mine .

solution:

do your own oil change

it is the easiest maintanence one can do.

yes it will get messy, but afterward you feel your man card just got a extended credit line.
