Circling back to this discussion on this topic: the reason the 14th Amendment grants citizenship at birth is clear of you see it as a reaction to the atrocious Dredd Scott decision, that basically said African Americans weren't citizens and didn't have the protection of the Constitution.Without digging in deep many places are sure if you’re born here and at least one parent is a citizen you are good.
