Failing power supply?

I've been using this new build for about a month:

i5 3550
ASRock H77M
Sapphire 7850 2GB
8GB Corsair RAM
500GB Western Digital Blue
DVD drive
Silverstone TJO8B-E case
CoolerMaster 450W RS450-ACAAD3-JP (GX Bronze)

Last night my system powered off all of a sudden, and when I turned it back on it would power off after a second and keep cycling back off and on.

Today the power stayed on and the power supply fan was working, but there was no video output and the cpu/case fans weren't spinning. I removed my video card because I was suspicious of it due to a couple black screen sound loop crashes I've had in diablo, but the problem was the same.

With the video card still out I removed one my RAM sticks and it booted to windows. When I shut it down it froze on the shutting down screen, the hard drive spun down, but everything else stayed powered until I had to switch it off. I put them RAM back in and again it booted to windows and froze while shutting down.

When I put the video card back in it wouldn't boot. No video and no cpu/case fan power.

Do you think my power supply is the culprit? Thank you very much for any suggestions.

Double check every connection from you PSU and make sure they are all in properly then reset your mobo for good measure (disconnect from mains, remove battery from mobo, hold case power button for 30 secs)

Report back with results.

I won't be able to test for another 12 hrs or so, but previously I made sure all the connections were solid and tested removing the battery while disconnected from the wall, but the connections to the mobo were still in place at the time. I can try it your way later.

Yes it may say that 500W is required, but that would only be if I had a ton of other parts drawing power. The 7850 only draws like 10W idle, 100W load so I'm sure my power usage is well under 450W.

It's hard to believe, but I did what you said and it seems to be working fine now! All the connections seemed solid, but I disconnected and reconnected the power to to the motherboard anyway. I still don't really know what the problem was. If I have more problems I'll be back. Thank you!

No problems.

Mobo reset should always be your first point of call with issues like this, sometimes they get a bit messed up. Glad it is sorted.
