I think they come out next month. Still, it sounds like people tweaked the edit/config files to effectively "mod" things.

I'm at work where The Man frowns upon browsing gaming sites, so forgive the lack of links.
1. Cross Repair - Armor and Cross Repair - Weapons : these allow you to repair your gear with similar gear. This seems realistic in a setting where everything is jury-rigged.
2. Better Power Armor : tones down Ranger Armor (although its still quite good) and beefs up power armor to the level where its actually worth wearing.

I use a few other ones like weapon and landscape re-textures, but those are eye candy.

Slower leveling and slower item degradation. Shooting two clips through an assault rifle should not cost 10% durability. Sorry, "magazines", for the pedants.

Yeah, slower degradation of items is the only one I use. Very useful, even if it is probably cheating. Just makes the game more fun without worrying about repairing shit every 10 minutes.

Haven't checked anything out yet, but I probably wouldn't use any gameplay mods. I was surprised you couldn't use an assault rifle to repair a Chinese assault rifle, but since you can't, I'd feel like it was cheating to add it in. (Obviously I don't care if you do it, just not something I'd do.) I'll have to check out some of the UI and graphics mods though; see if there's anything cool.

All I found for the repair mod was no degradation, instead of slower. Does anyone have a link for the slower degradation mod?

Thanks

I'm using the repairs mod and improved AP one. I find plenty of stuff I can repair my gear with so I don't mind the faster degradation.

I dont care how unrealistic it is, I'd like to carry more stuff.
A LOT more stuff. Like five to ten times as much. There are just too many cool goodies lying around. Yes, you can quick travel back to your house in Megaton and drop it off but that still sucks up game time, and you arent always allowed to quick travel.
Not only that but I am amazed at how many schematics I have discovered. All the stuff I used to think was junk is actually good for making gadgets. Too cool. And since you seem to find an aweful lot of tool benches in the game, it would be nice if you could carry around plenty of parts to construct with.
I guess I'll try the mod that sets max weight to 640. The 50,000 mod is just a little too unrealistic.

EDIT:
Also, I already tried a couple of texture replacements from some other sites, but they didnt seem to work for me.

Bah, what realism? My guy can carry 270 pounds without power armor and still run, what's 640?

I probably wouldn't use this mod though cause the only reason I go back to town is because I hit my weight limit. If I could carry everything, I'd just keep the collateral and keep going forever.

I'm surprised that power armor doesn't do that much more for stats though.

SPOILERS
Tesla armor adds to energy weapons and radiation resistance (looks awesome. Enclave is just BoS armour with less of everything except maybe damage resistance. Stalker got it more right. I can't believe that you only get a measely 20lb (BoS armour) boost to carry weight, if any at all, by wearing hydraulic/motor-assisted exoskeleton.

And where the hell is night vision or a directional flashlight? Only vault dwellers get a PiP-boy, so everyone else has to have a light making device of their own. Most people in Oblivion used torches.

Also, not so much a mod, more a 'fix'. If anyone else has mouse lag/acceleration/nausea, it appears that Fallout 3 forces v-sync on, even if you turn it off in the menu. You end up having to use your VC drivers to force it off (which still may or may not work). This was the first FPS in a long time to make me file slightly naseous. Editing vsync to off (iPresentinterval=0) in the INI file did wonders. Tearing is pretty bad in Fallout, but it's way better than all the mouse lag and getting sick.

Video games these days are a lot easier than they used to be, using mods to make the game easier (and cheat, really) is probably just making the experience worse. The mod for the improved chat interface looks pretty handy though on the other hand. If something in the game was really broken then I could see using a mod to get around that or fix a gameplay system that was making the game worse, but that's not really the case here. Ultimately though of course its a singleplayer game and you're only cheating yourself, /sighofrelief.

disagree. I haven't added any mods until now, and it was only to increase my level cap to 30. I've been able to do everything without "cheating" and after so many hours invested in, its nice to add in mods and have those "nice to haves." Frankly the time you put into it, you kind of feel like you deserve it. Mods just add flavor.

I can see how the level cap increaser is nice to have to extend the game when you've essentially "beat" it, I may look into it as well. However, making it easier to repair items, eliminating weight capacity (which is a major part of the game), and changing item properties to the point of imba is downright cheating.

I've been playing capped at level 20 for a week now. It's no big deal. You start appreciating the exploration and story a bit more without having to worry about experience points and what skills to level up next.

hmmm,
must admit, having weapons degrade a bit slower is a big help instead of having to repair them every time they're used!

That's because that mechanic is retarded. Damage should not fall off in a linear manner. All it does is makes you use your best weapons less, or not at all because you're constantly worried about durability. It doesn't really make it easier, just less annoying.

I find the weight cap bothersome, but without it I wouldn't have to make so many choices, and that seems to me a very valid part of the "survival rp" aspect. Takes me back to the System Shock 2, Deus Ex days. I'm such a hoarder!

You haven't had much experience with mods, have you?

The most popular mods:

1. Make the game look better
2. Fix stupid or broken systems within the game
3. Add additional content so you can keep playing the game

None of these are cheating, so go whine about mods elsewhere. Mods are the only way to make certain games, *cough* Oblivion *cough*, playable and can greatly increase the fun of other games.
