I actually have a pretty good PC which is why I was tempted to keep that version, but I'd rather play from the couch and not have to hook my laptop up when I feel like it.

If the load times are really bad, then I'll regret my decision. Lower graphics I can live with.
My PC and PS4 are connected to the same TV. I don't have both versions to compare on my own, but looking at digital foundry, even my old PC handles it way better than a PS4. The game looks better and runs way smoother. The 1080p60 YouTube videos really show the difference in smoothness. I almost bought the PS4 version for the same reason - faster to play and theoretically more convenient, but it really isn't. I'm happy I went with the PC version and would recommend others doing the same

I've been playing for 2hrs and just getting back to my house and just exploring around my old neighborhood. Weird how time flies in Fallout games. I always have this compulsion to search everywhere before I move on somewhere.

Is it really that noticeable in the graphics on ps4 vs Pc. I also don't feel like sitting on my desktop to play. Im pretty sure my rig can handle it though. If not, my laptop should (i7 6700hq, 8gb ram, nvidia 960m).

I do have a laptop I can leave hooked up, it's really just personal preference to have it on Xbox.

I'll find out today if I made the wrong choice!

The biggest problem is the frame rate. It is below 30fps quite a bit on console in certain situations

From eurogamer
In complex GPU-bound tests, such as a walk around the bustling Diamond City, we also see a divide in performance between the two consoles. Though most locations hold mostly steady at 30fps, this is one of the more densely packed, detailed spots in the game in terms of overall NPC count and geometry layout. As a result, both PS4 and Xbox One are prone to drops when walking around its centre, and Sony's machine consistently gives us the smoother return. On overlooking the city as a whole, Xbox One lags behind at a sustained 25fps in this case, while PS4 delivers at 28fps until we leave the scene. There's no question in this sense that PS4 leverages its raw hardware advantage into a performance lead - despite resolutions and assets being identical with Microsoft's platform.

It's a clear result across city areas, but surprisingly PS4 has a shortcoming elsewhere. While most battles produce a similar overall frame-rate, shootouts involving heavy transparency effects can affect PS4 more negatively than we'd expect. In extreme cases, such as on approaching an early Deathclaw enemy in Concord town, PS4 wavers close to the 20fps line when letting rip on a minigun. Fire, smoke, and blood splatter effects collide, and on re-testing this section several times on both consoles, Xbox One consistently produces a near-unshakable 30fps. It's possible this is a side-effect of Bethesda's choice to begin engine optimisations on Xbox One - but even so, PS4's lengthy stretches at the low 20fps range are out of place, given its advantages in every other area.

Indeed, just about every other battle produces similar results between the two consoles. Tackling a zombie swarm in a later city area, for example, PS4's frame-rate doesn't struggle noticeably when compared to Xbox One - and drops appear from both sides. It suggests it's only a problem in extreme cases, where effects are used to excess. On balance though, PS4 is in the better shape as terms of consistency across the game; it has nothing close to the stuttering seen on Xbox One, and a better frame-rate in big towns and cities as well. Xbox One has a repeatable advantage in the Deathclaw battle, where effects clash heavily, but in most scenarios we get matching, or superior results on PS4.

I don't care how great screenshots look, if it stutters, I'm not interested.

Time for a new PC A single GTX970 with a good core i5 will keep it locked at 60FPS, looking at digital foundry

I like the pseudo 1950's sci-fi scene, kind of like that last Indiana Jones movie with Shia LaBouf.

Yep that's my plan as well but I'll be running two cards at as high a resolution as I can go and still keep 60fps.

I may end up with the ps4 version anyway later on. Not sure if my desktop will keep up with it. I don't plan on upgrading for quite some time.

Get a GTX970, the rest is very good still! It's not expensive. Your CPU runs circles around mine and mine's still enough...

What system did you get it for? Let us know what you think of the frame rate etc. numbers tell a story sure but there have been games that ran fairly low frame rates and I didn't think anything of it.

Yea I'm interested as well. I was going to hold out on this one and get the new tomb raider first, but my Xbox one is being lended to my brother for a month or two.

Being playing on the PS4 for the last couple hours. Looks fine and runs well enough for me. What's funny is the Pip-boy edition does not really have a sealed box. Just some clear stickers, but those can be easily removed.

Have you played with the Pip-boy? Is it worth it's hype? I've ended up with a couple (one on X1 one on PS4 which I don't have) as gifts today and have considered Ebaying both.

Look like the PS4 is the definite edition to play in. I bought my PS4 copy but I don't have a PS4 yet. Saw on digital foundry that at one point the xbox one version had 0 fps (really?).

PC is great and all but after the failure that is the R9 Fury and how these console have better spec than my PC, console is the way.

The XB1 suffers from some stuttering and the 0fps is simply times when the game is stuttering.

Careful, some joker at a local PC repair shop said that SLI GTX 980 Ti cards couldn't run GTA V on his friend's computer very well, and that Fallout 4 wouldn't run on an R9 290X, as there isn't enough VRAM in the world to handle those games.

He also said that the only thing overclocking does is kill a processor...and that he does his gaming on a laptop.

What the heck's wrong with the Fury card?

Lol, Digital Foundry said the game doesn't even saturate 2GB of VRAM anyway. To be honest that's pretty sad. There's a lot of disappointments in Fallout 4 for me, well...not so much disappointment as I lambasted Bethesda and their engines when the game was announced. I guess it's more that I had hoped they would have put more effort in.

Agreed. I was just saying elsewhere that it seems they put more effort into merchandising for the game than the game itself. They did that freaking Nuka Cola Quantum deal with Target, and it turns out some Target stores got a total of 3 bottles. My store said they sold out at about 7 AM, and the store doesn't open until 8 AM. People have said employees are hoarding it, and it's being resold on eBay for $50-100.

Remember, this stuff is generic Jones soda with a different label, and they deliberately made it scarce and are screwing legitimate customers to favor hoarders and eBay shops. Oh, and that $120 Pip-Boy that doesn't come with the Season Pass is a giant piece of the cheapest plastic ever, and they sold a wired, third-party Fallout 4 controller for $60.

Typical, the people developing and producing the game are not running the marketing and promotions. I doubt the money spent on merchandising would have directly translated into a rewrite of the game engine, or at least the marketing budgets that I've seen for similar promotions.

I'm going to wait several months on this one, for proper patching and optimization. You people who buy Bethesda games at launch... must be a lot more tolerant of bugs and performance problems than I am.

The Xbox One version of this game's stutter problems should have caused a DELAY in release date, IMHO. Frequent frame drops to 25ish FPS, AND full on stuttering to ZERO FPS? GTFO with that Bethesda! That's not a finished game! *shakes fist*

Course, in my office 3 people bought the game anyway (1 PC, and 2 PS4 copies), and only 2 of us decided to wait for patching. There's just too many people buying these unfinished, broken games. It's really frustrating... Since if people don't stop, devs are just going to continue releasing unfinished, unoptimized, 25FPS bullshit.
