I think it's the best adaptation of a game ever. It's a little cheesy, but come on, it's based on a fighting game! But here's the kicker.. all the story in the movie is actually part of the mythology for the characters in the game. That mythology runs deep through multiple comic book series and is even discussed in the game manuals.

how well they treated the series, and kept the Mortal Kombat tournament aspect alive and kicking, definitely makes it stick out as the best movie-game adaptation ever. Resident Evil is also probably one of the better ones, just due to production values.

The trailer looks absolutely brutal by the way and I can see why there are no trigens, because they had to spend all of the money on that fihsing boat. What was the budget for this thing? A million bucks? :roll:

In one of Bourdain's recent TV shows, he went to the set of FarCry and was able to snag a bit part in the movie. He plays a scientist that gets shot. There was about 3-4 minutes on his show dedicated to this.

It looks like the Far Cry film you would imagine if someone made FC into a film, because that's really what he seems to have done.
FC hardly had the best story ever, and it doesn't look like this does either (since it's the same damned story), but you can't fault Uwe Boll from the trailer, it seems like a pretty true adaptation of the game.

the problem is tht the people making these movies never played the game, they were just given a general synopsis.

it's a generic action movie with a name on it that has a big fanbase. That is all.

Seriously, how hard can it be to make a movie that is:
1) Set on an island
2) Has lots of cliffs, trees, rivers and bridges
3) Unlimited guns, bombs and ammo
4) A tough-ass motherfucking one-man-army

You don't even need a big budget if you concentrate on close-quarters machete-equipped limb-chopping. Pile on the gore; have a tough sumbitch that is effective at using his environment against the enemy. I just saw Wahlberg do this in Shooter and it was pretty fucking cool.

Doom - the crappiest non-movie ever. Remember how people kept bitching about the game being 'too dark'? I played through the game just fine but I couldn't see shite in the movie. 1337 squad investigate dark area, monster comes out of nowhere, volume goes through the roof, weapon-mounted flashlights throw light everywhere EXCEPT the monster, guy lies dead, monster disappears, soundtrack quietens down. Rinse and repeat.

And yeah, the monsters? Not hellspawn. Just genetic experiments gone wrong. :roll:
