Demo sparked my interest. That is something a fps hasnt done since I played the original Half-life over Christmas break in 1998.

Gen, you really should check it out. I bought it at EB....it was on sale for $39.00

I'm thinking about picking it up today. I've read that the graphics, sound and SP are something really special, but the MP leaves something to be desired. My only problem is that I'm wondering if my 9700 Pro can handle it. I can buy a 9800 XT right now if I want, but I'm trying to wait for the nForce 3 250GB and a 64 3x00. Decisions, decisions! Does any have it and a 9700p? Does it run at high detail?

I have a 9700 PRO (2800XP pushing it) and 1GB RAM (which is very important....512 you will get some studders and disk thrashing), and the game runs sliky smooth....like a hot knife through butter.....like cream cheese.......like....., ok thats enough.

Man, you guys are getting me really up for this one. 57-minutes until EB opens...

I will, installing NOW...

Be sure you post here your initial impression! Have fun man.

I havent even "played" the game yet... Ive been running around looking at the scenery the whole damn time. ITs BEYOND gorgeous and such a freaking nice break from the space/monster/horror/WWII genres. The greens, the blues... they really took a GREAT idea and ran with it.

The load times (and exit times for that matter) are killing me though. I thought I read 1gig RAM would help out a bunch or turning off the pre-cached textures? Any truth?

I went home for lunch to play Far Cry... I feel so lame, but man was that fun.

I'm on the next to hardest level and watching the ai is just enjoyable. Being owned by tactics is a refreshing change from the run of the mill Quake shooter. What an wonderful piece of art this is.

Well, all I can say is WOW! From the start Farcry just screams quality. The intro is even classy. You get the whole lead-in without a word being spoken. The graphics kick the ass of anything before, and that includes shadows and subtle shades of color. The sounds, birds, insects, the weapons, and the mercs you're fighting are all very believable and act to draw you in even further. It runs just fine on my 9700P too. Which means I can stretch out having to buy a new video card, at least until the R420 hits. If you don't have it yet, get it. Off to play some more, be back with more impressions as soon as I have some. Good hunting!

I think a new Raptor would help my load times quite a bit but it isnt that bad since all the fun makes up for it. BTW what are those render modes for? What do they change?

The render modes are like the pixel shader effects on the ATI panel. Test them and you'll see the difference. I really like "paradise". Paradise mode slightly washes out the hot colors, it makes it look humid and hot.

amzing game
definetly the first next gen shooter
im currently at the blow up the three radar towers level

one thing that bugs me is the speed, I have a 9700 pro and a 1800xp and its just slooooow no matter what, shadow detail seems to slow it down the most though.

but whats actually more anoying is that the game is slower when im indoors and there the frame rate can go from 50-60 all the way down to 5fps, veeery anoying

The bad news is that the patch will not release today. We currently plan to release the patch tomorrow (3/26).

The good news is that the patch will address all of the following features:

-Fixed issue with FarCry anti-cheat kicking players connecting to non-similar regions due to post process copy protection
-Integrated Punkbuster anti-cheat system (special thanks to Tony Ray for his help)
-Support for All Seeing Eye
-Fixed a number of issues with language localization
-Added crouch toggle feature so players can bind a "one touch" button to cycle prone/crouch
-Added zoom toggle (see above)
-Fixed bug with AI autobalance that sometimes caused it not to initialize outside of DEVMODE
-Fixed issue where player spawns a little higher in the air after a load from checkpoint.
-Improved AI saving state at checkpoints.
-Added new netcode optimizations, vehicles now use significantly less bandwidth in client to server updates. We are still investigating netcode issues, it is currently our highest priority
-LAN servers now restricted to LAN IP's
-Fixed some issues with sv_port variable not working correctly
-Added network commands to help players tune the network rates for better performance, including the following commands:

cl_cmdrate - Limit the number of command packets sent from client to server
sv_maxcmdrate - Limit the max cmd rate clients can specify
cl_updaterate - Limit the number of update packets sent from the server
sv_maxupdaterate - Limit the max updates clients can specify
cl_maxrate - Max bits per second can be adjusted
sv_maxrate_lan or sv_maxrate (for non lan, ie internet) will limit the cl_rate allowed on the clients
sv_DedicatedMaxRate - To change the server update speed

-Open query protocol to allow monitoring of the server with external tools
-Server config can now be anywhere with any name
-Fixed bug where "Join game" button no longer worked in multiplayer UI
-Fixed issue with dedicated server running on Windows 2003 Server edition
-Fixed bug when players get out from a vehicle, the player will go in standing pose (no crouch or prone).
-The message "drop your weapon to take this other weapon" will disappear only when the player go away from this weapon, not immediately.
-Fixed no pain sounds if an explosion didn't really hurt the player.
-Improved shader speed (up to two times faster) for NVidia Geforce FX cards on very high settings
-Fixed fog bug with NVidia drivers
-Fixed realtime shadows from blended trees
-Made improvements to lighting shaders on very high settings
-Fixed bug with lake reflections
-Added support fro PS3.0 shader profile
-Set default dedicated server log_verbosity 0 to print out console data. Before it displayed no info because logging was set to 0.
-Fixed an issue with command line game joining with the FarCry shortcut

Lot of good stuff, esp Punkbuster (campaigned a lot for that on beta test forum).

hoping FC arrives tomorrow, bet it's not until Monday though :| Preordered weeks ago but for some reason everyone likes to release games on Fridays in UK.

I'm a bit upset that there seems to be no DVD version in the US, even though there is one in Europe .

I'll probably still pick up the game today or tomorrow anyway

You know, I have a 9700 PRO as well. But, I have a 2800xp driving it. I havent had a problem, so I'm guessing its your CPU (which, honestly, is a bit slow for this game). How much RAM are you running? People with 512 have complained of some studdering. Trust me, I ahve 1GB....it makes a huge difference!

1gb of ram here
its probably the cpu, which comes to think of it isnt that slow compared to the average computer out there... its probably in the average range

btw what drivers are you using? im using cat4.2

Is this game similar to Serious Sam. I mean gameplay wise instead of graphics. I am debating whether to get this first or Battlefield Vietnam.

FC isn't like SS. If you play it that way you'll be on a serious replay treadmill. FC requires equal parts steath and machine gun work, and you'll learn which is better under what conditions. If you want something bright and current FC is for you. If you want something like a WWII online shooter with slightly cooler weapons, do BF:V.

Has anyone played the multiplayer? I've heard reports that were less than positive, but with huge open spaces and a jungle atmosphere I would think it would be decent.

I'm (not) patiently waiting for the return of my 9800pro so I can run out and buy this game. I don't even want to try it with my ti4400.

I heard the same thing about MP, but tomorrows patch is SUPPOSED to help.

I just bought it earlier today and have played it for a bit. Wow is all I can say the graphics are amazing. How do you display your in game frames per second stats?

To check your frames per second, once in the game hit your console ~ key and then enter:

\r_displayinfo 1

(make the \ by hitting the Tab button)

To turn it off, do:

\r_displayinfo 0

Just picked this up tonight, and certainly is an eye-popping treat. Can't wait to get further in, but the darn visuals keep me just wandering around the island ooh'ing and aah'ing...

I'm using the 4.3's. Might want to upgrade and give it a try.

I think it is fantastic...ifyou uninstalled after 20 minutes, I just don't understand...

COD wasn't fun? come on!

Jedi Academy?

I will also say that I agree, this is the first of the 'next generation' games - this thing looks beautiful!

I would bump up to the 4.3 cat's, but they seem to hose my MMC (AIW), so I'll wait for the next ones...

When it comes to internet, every opinion is THE opinion. What's "fun" is a very subjective thing. Also, the retail is supposedly 20-hours long. The first map is called "training."
