I completely agree. It didn't take more than 20 min for me to hit the uninstall button.

Some folks just don't like the FPS genre. Should've thought about that before you purchased the game.

The fun for me comes from the story and from the ai behaivor. If you reload the same spot 10 times you'll get 10 different fire fights just because of the ai.

For some reason Im having a hell of a time playing this game... it seems to be REALLY hard for me (and no Im no FPS newb... Im certainly above average in play)...

I mean I could hardly get into the damn ship on the first level... I kept getting mowed down. Is it some super AI or maybe I just have to "learn" the game...

It isn't you, it's a hard game.

Wow is all I can say about this game. The story line for me is very well laid out. Again this game totally reminds me of the first half life.

Graphics are just sick good or maybe I havent played anything newer than a HL lvl game yet

But there were parts where I was like damn this is impressive.
Performance isnt bad but nothing stellar.

1600X1200X32
System specs are below.

I would say for the most part in complicated scenes I am getting around 20 fps. Not choppy but you can tell it isnt totally smooth. In more enclosed scenes it obviously jumps way up because it becomes noticeably smooth.

Not bad IMO. I can live with it until next fall when I get a new machine with either an R420 or NV40. I would imagine both cards should power this baby at that res at over 40FPS without an issue IMO.

I will have to check the exact details but basically no AA and like 1 level of AF is what I know for sure.

P4 3.06 w/ HT
1 GB RAM
128 MB ATI Radeon 9800
2 x 200GB HD

Game is simply amazing, i set all the settings to the highest, when there was heavy action (alot of people shooting at you, or monsters jumpin around) there was a little slowdown so i lowered the resolution a bit, but still amazing.

What resolution do you run at? Also, what kinda resolution/performance do people with Radeon 9700 Pro get? I currently have geforce4 TI4400 and I'm thinking about upgrading.

I haven't had any problems with my 9700P running at 1024x768 32 bpp with every thing on high. I'd like to hear how it's running on the 9800 XT though. Mid April they're going to be a lot cheaper than they are now.

No, the game is just hard...and it was crafted that way. I'm about 18-20 hours into the game (yes its a long game....no COD here!) and I can think of 3 scenarios that put that one to shame. But it never gets frstrating b/c the fire fights are never the same. BRAVO Crytek! I don't know how far you guys are, but you have SO many cool things to experience. I've already decided that I'm going to play this again and be extremely thorough. I'm not doing that now....I'm just playing and fighting (not checking every corner of the island).

I think I'll finish it today, and when I do I'll start a new post as a review/discussion of it. But this game is amazing!

Here're my frame rates, wanted compare them to what others are getting. I'm running P4 2.4 w/ 1GB of RAM and Geforce4 TI4400. Nothing is overclocked.

The config util suggested I leave everything on medium, however, I changed all the graphics options (textures, detail, particles, etc) to high. I left FAA disabled. I run the game on 1024x780x32. On the first level (island) I get around 30+ fps most of the time. Once in a while when there's heavy fighting or on certain scenes rates drop to low 20s.

I'm luv'n this game too. I was playing the demo for the last couple weeks and picked up the full game yesterday.
I had the demo loaded on both of my systems (see Rigs) and it runs smoothly on both. Actually a little better on my Athlon system.
I didn't have time to load the full game on both systems last night, but I did on the Athlon system.
I can't say enough about how awesome the game is. Realistic, Realistic, Realistic.
Very hard too. I'm still getting used to the "tactical" aspect of this shooter. There is no ONE way to approach it.
I'll be playing this for a long time.

Yeah, when I played the demo, and it didn't have a quicksave, I was a bit disappointed. I've got 2 kids, a wife, and a pretty busy day. My gaming experience, unfortunately, involves using the quicksave, pause, quit, restart scenario quite often. And not having a quicksave can be a pain. But, I'm actually glad it isn't there now. The checkpoints are often enough, but, moreso, like you said, the action is different each time.

That level mentioned above, the carrier... I musta reloaded that 15 times coming up that ladder and facing that chopper. Some guy on the forums was saying to take out the guy in the chopper, hide behind some boxes so you can take out the guy on the machine gun, then methodically kill everyone else. Well, for some reason, that just wasn't working for me at all.

Then, I got another idea of my own, I went back down to the lower decks to that mounted machine gun, took out the chopper with that, and then jumped in the water to find the boat. And dammit if the boat wasn't tied up to the carrier 4 stories high while I'm in the water just waving at it. Good thing my gut told me to shoot the chains instead of reloading. The boat came floating down and I headed off. Sweet.

This is the first game since the original Deus Ex that I can remember actually getting by certain areas in completely different and unique ways.

For those who don't know, patch 1.1 is out.

Link? It's not on their website....

link to patch
edited link that works. servers are pretty busy as always.

Info about patch:

This patch was released to fix a small number of bugs and to add functionality to FarCry.

Details

1. We are aware of an issue causing players connecting to an internet based multiplayer game to drop their connection and timeout during a connect. If you find your connection stalling when joining a server, we recommend that players retry the connection until it succeeds.
2. When hosting games on LAN with punkbuster, please remember to enable pb_sv_lan 1 pb_sv_guidrelax 7.
3. We strongly recommend players host multiplayer games only through FarCry dedicated server.

Single player

- Added toggle modes for Aim and Crouch
- Fixed numerous small bugs
- Fixed a crash when attempting to load more than one instance of FarCry
- Fixed bug with AI autobalance that sometimes caused it not to initialize outside of DEVMODE
- Fixed issue where player spawns a little higher in the air after a load from checkpoint.
- Improved AI saving state at checkpoints.

Multiplayer

- Fixed issue with FarCry anti-cheat kicking players connecting to non-similar regions due to post process copy protection
- FarCry anti-cheat is now disabled by default (replaced with Punkbuster)
- Added support for All Seeing Eye
- Added Punkbuster support
- Added new netcode optimizations, vehicles now use significantly less bandwidth in client to server updates. Mounted weapons no longer generate packets when not being used. Included various other packet compressions.
- Added network commands to help players tune the network rates for better performance, including the following commands:

cl_cmdrate ? Limit the number of command packets sent from client to server
sv_maxcmdrate ? Limit the max cmd rate clients can specify
cl_updaterate ? Limit the number of update packets sent from the server
sv_maxupdaterate ? Limit the max updates clients can specify
cl_maxrate ? Max bits per second can be adjusted
sv_maxrate_lan or sv_maxrate (for non lan, ie internet) will limit the cl_rate allowed on the clients
sv_DedicatedMaxRate ? To change the server update speed

- LAN servers now restricted to LAN IP?s
- Configurable ubi.com ports sv_auth_port (port directing ubi.com cdkey authentication) and sv_regserver_port (port used to register servers with ubi.com) for admins.
- Added ability to disable server address publishing with command sv_servertype ?NET?
- Fixed some issues with sv_port variable
- Open query protocol to allow monitoring of the server with external tools
- Server config can now be anywhere with any name
- Improved priority based network system (below a certain limit it was not sending, now it does)
- Fixed adjustable cmdrate with vehicles
- Fixed command line joining, there was still a little problem
- Added some optimizations to UI system drawing/updating
- Fixed bug where ?Join game button? no longer worked in multiplayer UI
- Fixed issue with dedicated server running on Windows 2003 Server edition
- Fixed bug when players get out from a vehicle, the player will go in standing pose (no crouch or prone).
- The message ?drop your weapon to take this other weapon? will disappear only when the player go away from this weapon, not immediately.
- Fixed no pain sounds if an explosion didn?t really hurt the player.

Other

- Improved shader speed (up to two times faster) for NVidia Geforce FX cards on very high settings
- Fixed fog bug with NVidia drivers
- Added support for NVidia NV40 chipset
- Fixed realtime shadows from blended trees
- Made improvements to lighting shaders on very high settings
- Fixed bug with lake reflections
- Added support fro PS3.0 shader profile

Thanks for the info deadsea.

The games graphics are just unreal. Im so caught up in the atmosphere it really just puts me in awe. Its a game that took a huge leap forward in graphics. To bad none of us really have enough hardware power to play the engine at its max. I leave AA off because I really cant tell the difference with it on and it kills performance @ 1280x960. Textures is set to Highest with little AF, and all the effects are set to max. Still a little jerky at some points but I dont know if thats from slow framerates or from the recoil action of the guns. To tell you the truth im afraid to run Fraps to find out.

Games like this make me hope that 64 bit cpu performance can give us the maximum qualities some of us would like. Even though that seems way to far off perspective. Not to mention they would likely have to remake the game for 64 bit. I'm just hoping that the new video cards can run games like Far Cry flawlessly on high res.

I got to admit though, I thought graphical engines like these were fake. Only shown in fabricated screen shots and movies, lol. But wow, was I wrong. Far Cry eerily reminds me of some of the screen shots show in D3. The only difference I saw in the D3 graphics compared to this game was the dark environments. The character details resemble a whole like the monsters we saw in D3. Its a good game to scale with D3. I expect a lot more lighting effects in Doom 3 however.

I'm just in awe. Excuse me why I go cry, this is too much lol. I think im turning bi-polar. Graphic engines like this is what hardware enthusiasts live for. To hell with UT2k4.

BTW, you can save the game whenever you want. Its either "\save_game xx" or "\game_save xx" and then to load its the same -just swap "save" with "load".

I agree that the graphics are amazing.

I have a AMD Athlon 64 3400+, 1 gig of RAM, and a Radeon 9800 XT. I have it at 1280x960, with everything at Max. Still get a little slowdown in huge firefights but most of the time it plays smoothly. And it is the best looking game I have ever seen.

It adds so much to the atmosphere. I love crawling through the bushes with a sniper rifel picking guys off. They can't see you and are running everywhere looking for you.

I just got to the underground temple part. Finally got the OICW (Awesome weapon). How do you guys beat the huge guys with Rocket Launcher arms? I have mostly been avoiding them thus far (only killing the ones that were already in a big firefight with the mercenaries so were already low on hit points), but I just met one that I think I might have to kill. The problem is I only have 1 rocket left, and those things take forever to kill. Any tips?
