Aim for the head! Nah I dont know I cant play the game anymore for at least 3 weeks since my MB and Memory crapped out on me but once I get those RMA's complete I'll be back in business but maybe not since I'll be packing and gettin ready to move.

:Q This game is awesome! I got it tonight and have been playing nonstop, basically.

Of course the graphics are just completely amazing - and I'm surprised by how well it runs too. With my moderately-fast-but-could-be-faster system (1700+@2.4ghz, 9700 Pro) I can turn all details to Ultra High and still get 35+fps nearly all the time at 1024x768. That's without AA though...when I had it turned on, my framerates would often drop to 15 or 20fps in complex scenes.

Overall I'm really happy with the game so far.

Datalink, my source of slowdown was AA. But I didn't see what damn difference with it on other wise. I even looked close at railings and long edges, no jaggies. AA is pointless for this game with 1280x960. Other than that the game runs smooth now.

If you want to see something cool, try shooting at one of the lamps and watch the light source move around in the rooms. All the shadows and highlights on the water etc... just amazing.

If you want to kill the rocket guys , aim for their chest. 2 shot gun shells in the chest brings them down quickly.

I'm hesitant to apply the 1.1 patch.
It doesn't negate your saves I hope, but I imagine it will render my nocd patch useless. Anybody know?

You can still use saved games. The nocd crack I don't know.

Save games are not affected and the patch doesn't change "FarCry.exe"

I thought only the water could be changed to Ultra High, everything else is Very High.

From the first time I show that freakin demo I knew that this would be a legend.
FC is just superb.
Plays pretty good on my 2.8c 9800pro 512pc3200 at 10x7 32bpp 4xAA and everythings set to max.
I have to agree with everyone saying that the AI is really good. To be honest I preffer Halo's more, but it's totally different in terms of gameplay.

So what's with the "ultra high" setting? I run everything at very high and there's no option for ultra
Could this be a memory problem since I can't think of anything else?

Yea, water is the only thing that can be set to ultra high. And I never noticed it till I saw the above.

I run my system with everything set to max and I get about 50 fps.

I installed FC on my son's comp. He's got a 1.4GHz Athlon Thunderbird, 1GB PC 2100 RAM and a GeF4 Ti 4200 video card.
The game auto-detected the settings to "low" but he was getting about 150 fps, so I set everything to medium and water a little higher so he gets 50fps and fairly decent graphics.

Hey, what's that "AI auto balance" setting do?

This game rocks. Hard as hell and keeps you coming back for more. Very impressive. I haven't had this much fun in a FPS since, well, I don't know when! If you have the hardware, this game just rocks.

Probably....the main difference between your system and mine is I have the 9800 Pro.

I still have yet to find a comfortable setting for Far Cry. It always seems to have just a little bit of lag. I'm using 1284x1024 with everything set to "Very High". I'll try running it at a lower res, but you'd think my system would just plow through this game: A64 3200@2.2ghz, 1gig RAM and a 9800 Pro. I guess I'll just have to experiment until I find the right combination of settings.

What do you guys think of those Trigens?

One leapt at me and I managed to kill it in midair... it fell at my feet, but not before Jack Carver made a deposit in his briefs. I also had one leap at me, I ducked and it flew over the railing behind me, also resulting in a double scoop in Jack Carver's briefs.

I'm terrified of Trigens. :frown:

Yea, they're scary, one swipe and you're dead.
I fell into the water in the bunker while fighting them, one jumped in after me and died immediately, lol!

only cheated twice
first it was the level where you are dumped at a hilltop with one rifle and sfsckngin 10 bullets, could have probably sneaked past all the critters but it would have just taken too many tries, ended when I was at the river, or sea, the water that parted the level
second was the last level, I mean I was only playing it at easy but that map is impossible!! it takes 8-10 shotgun shells to kill one of those bastard and I even used the rockets on one, all direct hits and needed 5 rockets to take one down!!

No, you won't. But I'm sure you can find settings that allow a tradeoff.

I haven't cheated yet, but some of the times I have wanted to. I'm playing on Challenging, and I've had to play some parts 20+ times before I got it :Q

Currently I'm on the part where you are going down the river.

You can walk or swim past most of those guys.

I would think so too. I guess the reality is that software can always be easily built to stress the most cutting edge hardware. Which is why when someone makes the argument that today's hardware is more than capable of handling any game out, I feel like laughing. Sure it has taken a while for a game like this to come out, but it suddenly cripples even the best hardware. Both ATI and Nvidia seem to be sitting on their a$$es for the past year and a half. The 9800pro is basically an R300 with some minor upgrades. The less said about Nvidia's recent misadventures the better.

Um...this game did not cripple my system one bit. I ran perfectly smooth on my system. This seems to be the majorities opinion that are posting. Heck, I'm glad they gave us so many options to tweak. Kudos to Crytek for some smart, economical programming. I'm running a 2800xp, 9700 PRO, and 1GB PC2700.
