Oh god. I finally feel I need a upgrade from my current computer

P4 1.6Ghz 400Mhz
1Gig PC2100
Geforce4 Ti4800

I could barely play this game with medium setting..... I need a 3Ghz Computer NOW!!! with a radeon 9800 pro. I already have it but haven't got the time to put it all together guess this will push me to do it.

Well the game isnt 64 bit yet. But I guess they pre programmed it to be patched to 64 bit. We are still missing two pieces of the puzzle, a 64-bit operating system (non beta), with 64-bit drivers from numerous hardware manufacturers. Then we'll be seeing some performance boost.

You never quite make sense, you know that? Giving incoherent, knee-jerk advice is immature. You were wrong. Instead of offering lame, disjointed crituqes of what I post, why don't you just admit you were wrong and move on?

Good news! I did manage to get FC to run silky smooth. I had to turn off AA, change AF to "1" and turn down "Shadows" to Low. Now it runs great at 1280x1024 with everything maxed except Shadows. I'm very pleased with the game now. Well, sort of pleased. I keep getting my arse kicked, so now that's pissing me off! lol

Glad to hear it! There's nothing like solving a computer problem that had been vexing you no end.

I would not say the graphics pisses all over everything else. Thats insane. The graphics for Far Cry are generally similar to other engines. The difference comes in where they used lots of bright colors for the jungle / sea. These colors make everything look more vibrant. If I were to compare 2 similar engines with similar features and one had dark gray colors and the other looked like far cry, you might go and say far cry is amazing, but that isn't very fair.

The graphics are a step above. And in a few months, doom3 and hl2 will be out and they will be leaps above far cry. With actual dynamic environments (hl2) and the most realistic monsters yet (doom3).

If I had the time, I'd sit down with far cry and a bunch of other games and take similar screenshots. The realisation being that, although far cry is very pretty, it isn't revolutionary.

If you think Far Cry looks like old technology you're going to be very disappointed with both Doom3 and HL2. That being said... you're right. Far Cry isn't revolutionary in game play, but it is evolutionary in terms of hardware and graphics development.

Skace, please give me a name of a game that looks like Far Cry. The character details, particle effects, shadowing, and light sourcing looks unmatched in any game I've seen. The way the light beams through the jungle canopy and glares off your gun and low level shrubs, the way the shadows move when the light sources get struck, a rag doll affect that puts max payne 2 to shame, the fact the characters no longer have square jaws and pointy elbows and rough edges. Come on, there is nothing like this game.

Couple this with the fact that few of us have seen FC with max detail at high resolution and I would say yes, it's revolutionary in terms of graphics. Futhermore, how can anyone hawk HL2 and Doom 3 as being superior when none of us have seen either game?

That's what im thinking. I've seen the trailers of D3 and they don't look that much more impressive than Far Cry. As for HL2..well...all I saw was the trailer at E3 6-12 months ago. I actually don't give two shites about HL2 now. Since Ubisoft actually delivered their product like they were suppose too. And that deserves a lot a credit for such a game.

Regarding the 64bit support for this game:

It says right in the manual that a beta version for Windows 64-bit will soon be released. Expect unprecedented gaming performance. (I'm going by memory)

Why do people assume that a top of the line system can run this game at max settings AND max resolution? As resolution goes up, the number of pixels that must be processed goes up exponentially. There is only so much horsepower in the current generation of video cards.

This game looks fabulous at 1152x864 and runs very smooth on both of my gaming systems.

A friend of mine says he can run it at full detail. 1280x1024 32bpp on a 64 3200/K8V deluxe, Audigy 2 ZS (great for not sucking much CPU) a gig Corsair LL pro and a 9800 XT. I haven't seen this for myself yet. I'm holding out for a R420 or a 64 3400 and the best nForce3 250gb I can find before I start turning FC WAY up.

I couldnt play UT2k3 at max res and settings let alone far cry on top of the line hardware. I could, but with heavy slow downs during bot battles. To the point where I wouldnt be able to aim right, so it's pointless.

Yup, just one more reason why I'm looking forward to my next upgrade...

I originally did not care for the demo. But since I have been playing the full game I absolutely love it! I am running a P4 2.4A, 500 MB Rambus 800, ATI 9800 Pro and it runs smooth. Granted I would love to have another half gig of RAM, but all in all I have no complaints.

500meg? That's a strange number. RAMBUS specific?

Not make sense? You dont know what mature means? Your "STFU" response was elementary and I personally don't feel the need to go there, unlike you. Since you didnt read my post before, I'll repeat what I said. Since our discussion is no longer contructive and does nothing to benefit the thread, our discussion is over. It *you* that needs to move on. Don't expect me to reply to you anymore after this post.

think I can play it on my mobility radeon 9000? Just curious, since I can run BF1942 maxed out at a damn good framerate... but this looks extra hard on my gfx card.

you sure you can run 1942 maxed out? i have a 9000 pro thats even overclocked and i still have to resort to 16bit with lowered textures to truely achieve truely sillky smoothness. i guess your settling for less then silky on your laptop. i'm sure far cry will run... at very low settings.
