Pearl Jam (probably #1 90's band)
Nirvana
DMB
STP
Toad the Wet Sprocket
The Flys (well, their one hit wonder)
Sublime
Alice in Chains
Korn (before they sucked, and after they started getting good again)
Guster

What the fuck? Many of the bands listed in this thread formed in the 80's:

Alice in Chains

Or did you mean bands that were active throughout the 90's? Because that would change the scope of this thread entirely.

I'm basing my pick of AIC on when their first album came out, 1990.

Basing my criteria for "favorite" on money spent -- the honor goes to Pearl Jam. Bought 4 of their albums.

I liked the ones you listed a lot. I stopped listening to pearl jam when the vitolagy album came out,I'm just now starting to get back into them.

I could not stand Pearl Jam once that album came out because the radio played it NON-STOP for what seemed forever. They did that to a lot of songs and the reason why I avoid the normal radio at all costs til this day. I was even a fan of Soundgarden but I don't think I could sit through Black Hole Sun even now because of hearing it so much back then.

PJ has a lot of good stuff, but once Y2k rolled around.....

Another one like that is Oasis. Although unlike PJ they couldn't even make it to the end of the 90's. Definitely Maybe and Morning glory were just all kinds of awesome. After that? Bleh. I do admit I kind of like their latest album, though.

Tough call on band...

But Badmotorfinger by Soundgarden is one of my favorite albums of any band, ever along with Core by STP. But as a whole, I liked the entire work by AIC more.

I agree and wow. Thats pretty impressive how'd you come to meet him?

Waited all day in the rain in front of the Newport in Columbus OH for a small show (around 1200) and was carrying a vinyl Adore album hoping for a signature.

After the show I went out back and waited by the tour bus along with about 6 other fans and finally he came out and looked at me, still wet and asked something along the lines of whats your story?

I told him I drove 4 hrs to get there, after getting my parents to drive 2hrs to babysit. Hes like wow, all that to see me? I laughed and told him I really enjoyed the show and really liked his music and said maybe I wouldnt have to go through so much if he would just stop by WV sometime. He told me that he didnt think he'd ever played there and asked what towns would even hold shows like his and I said Morgantown and Charleston, he asked what kind of bands played there. I rattled off a few I had seen recently (chevelle, disturbed, the fray, nickleback...I know but it was for my wife) and he says well it seems like mostly metal which isnt really our demographic and that he would check into it and see if it looked like they could sell coming here.

Asked for an autograph and he declined, said sorry but they end up on ebay, thanked me for coming, thanked me for buying their albums (on vinyl no less) and took off.

There was some other friendly chit chat tossed in, but that was the meat of it. I will say he is one tall mf'er

Well that is shit. Here is my epic autograph story.

I followed NIN on tour last year, 4 stops in 9 days. @ Stop 3, the guitarist threw his water bottle into the pit - I grabbed it.

SB Bowl is a TINY ass venue so you have to walk past the tour buses to get to the venue. After show is over, we stick around the tour buses. We see the drummer get into 1 bus, so we know which one to camp out now. Fast forward 30 minutes or so, no one gets onto the bus except for one dude with a bike and a headset. We ask him if we can get it signed, he says "sorry but everyone is asleep".

So wtf are a buncha die hard fans gonna do? Ask him to get the band to sign the water bottle and we'll pick it up later. He actually says YES and gives us his number.

18 hours and 50 miles later, we meet up with him at the parking lot of Shoreline. Props if you can ID all the signatures. Triple props for identifying related acts.

Wow. That's a great story. I can't believe you had a true conversation with Billy Corgan. Wow dude. That's awesome. I've heard he's really fuckin tall.

They are apparently back together for a 6th album.

lol

"The Cranberries are an Irish rock band formed in Limerick in 1989 under the name The Cranberry Saw Us"

I wonder if drugs were involved?

The singer probably annoyed herself to death with that voice of hers.

Maybe but this is impressive: The Cranberries rose to international fame in the 1990s with their debut album, Everybody Else Is Doing It, So Why Can't We?, which became a commercial success and sold over five million copies in the United States. The group was one of the most successful rock acts of the '90s and sold over 14.5 million albums in the United States alone.

There are A LOT of good bands to come out of the 90's, as evidenced by most of the suggestions in this thread, but my favorite is definitely Alice in Chains. I can listen to their entire albums and not think of a song that I don't love. Excellent band.

Can't say the same for the 00's. There are a few good bands, and some 90's bands are still around, but by and large the 00's weren't a decade to be hallowed for good music.

I too met him a couple of times... actually all the SP members. When they were recording Gish in Madison with Butch Vig they lived in the same house as my friend (who was also recoding at the time). I visited a few times and there was Billy, D'Arcy etc. Though in hindsight, I doubt any of them were "there" if you know what I mean... very nice though. Very cool. This was 1991 though so they were young (as was I).

When they played MKE we went up on the bus too once or twice (with my previously mentioned friend). I just recall James being there. Though another show I did hang out with D'Arcy's sister (super hot) and mom and dad who all came up from Chicago for the show.

That's my super-cool 90s' Smashing Pumpkins stories.
