Favorite "young adult" book?

I know it's vague, but if anyone can help me out that would be key. I loved that book.

Nah it's not that. I vaguely remember the book beginning with a C. It took place in a New England area, or maybe a in Cali, but a lot of it took place on the coastline, in a city on the shore or something

Did no one else read the Susan(?) Cooper "Dark is Rising" series?

Mine too.

I love that book, but I'm not sure that I consider it young adult when compared with alot of these others. Required High School reading? Yes, but that doesn't really make it young adult, imo.

I first read Dune in the fifth grade.

i guarentee you didn't understand all the subtle nuances in the book like you would now. I read it for the first time around then too but i only really appreciated it several years later when i reread it.

Maybe so, but it's a really cool book even before you can understand it to any major degree.
