Something I always thought funny with Dawn of the Dead remake was the fact that Andy was "trapped" in his gun store. When it shows his storefront there might be a few hundred zombies laying around. He is an excellent sharpshooter (as demonstrated when he takes out the people for fun) but most of the time he does nothing. If he needed food and water so bad, he could have used some of the large quantities of ammo to free himself (literally clean the street completely) and get over to the mall where he can get food  (not that zombie movies require sensibility about them)

Apparently the bonus footage for the film had commentary noting that the more zombies Andy took out, the more arrived around his store.

Dawn of the Dead remake

Honorable mention:
Dead Alive / Brain Dead
The Stink of Flesh (very twisted)
Wild Zero (Guitar Wolf!)
Lifeforce (zombie-vampire victims)
Versus
28 Days Later
Night of the Comet
Shaun of the Dead

Excellent list ...
though I would personally put Wild Zero in the top 5 and move Cemetary Man down to the Honorable Mentions section ...

1) Dawn of the Dead remake (the most modern one, came out not that long ago, it was truly creepy like a zombie film should be)
2) 28 Days Later (Glorious!)
3) Braindead (Dead Alive was the American release, Peter Jackson did this one, it's the single movie with the most fake blood ever used)

I didn't know there was going to be a sequel to 28 days later, that's great!

While I do enjoy modern zombie flicks like 28 days and dawn of the dead, something is missing IMO. Just feels like zombies aren't given enough screen time to get you going.

Whereas the first Dawn of the Dead had zombies all around and different "run ins", the remake has lots of internal conflict instead and very few zombie scenes inside the mall (aside from the very start, and the scene where they go to the parking garage).

Both are good movies still.

My order:
Land of the Dead
Dawn of the Dead
Night of the living Dead
Day of the Dead
Shaun of the Dead
Dawn of the Dead (Remake)
Resident Evil
Return of the Living Dead--the first movie with smart, strong, and fast zombies
28 Days Later
Resident Evil 2
Night of the Living Dead (Remake)

The slow zombies seem so much more scary. More depressing and scary that the slow moving hoard will eventually get you (more time for you to think about it). Also the zombie movies where everyone that dies becomes one is even worse--really no hope even if you survive you will eventually become one.

I just love zombie movies and can't wait for 28 weeks later and resident evil 3

Land of the dead was LAME. Zombies do not learn. They do not evolve. Evolving requires reproduction. Yes the virus could have evolved and created smarter zombies but that would happen in the NEXT generation of zombies. The current zombies wouldn't learn how to do anything that required intelligence.

He broke his own zombie rules in making Land of the Dead.

Aww,

None of you have seen Lamberto Bava's Demons?

Sure, its called demons, but the actual creatures are hyperactive sadistic Zombies!

One of the best Euro-horror movies, got a great soundtrack too!

Note: Demons 2 is okay, everything after is crap.

I vaguely recall that movie, but it was a movie that really made me feel the dread a Zombified world would be. Not sure how well it holds up compared to what kids have grown up with these days, but back in the 70's it still stood out. Definitely worth checking out.

The 1980's Night of the Living Dead and Return of the Living Dead were both great as well. They had there light hearted comedy mixed in, so fear/dread wasn't really the point of them.

Broke his rule? Day of the Dead was centered on the learning of a zombie. It's not evolution for a one year old to conclude the round peg goes in the round hole not the square one.

Why dont the zombies eat trees/buildings; obviously, they know that those aren't edible--very primitive intelligence but intelligence nonetheless.

I just want a good zombie movie where the world turns zombie apocalypse. The zombies are slow but are everywhere

Day of the Dead IS that movie. It's not as good as Dawn and Night, but it's better than Land.

God I love Zombie movies.

Kako, To (Evil) It may be a Greece film but it was created for the people and by the people! The zombies fully beat hollywood zombies and finally a ending that is great!

My vote goes to the new Dawn of the Dead (Richard Cheese singing Down With the Sickness was just amazing, plus the ending wasn't happy (too many movies are)). 28 days later was very good, not as typical as some other zombie movies. I didn't really like 28 weeks later though, too different from the original and too like other zombie movies. And Shaun of the Dead is just fucking hilarious.

Zombies + * = win.

zombie mod for CS + Rob Zombie = win
zombie movies = win
"Zombie Surivial Guide" = win
