Beethoven is my god... actually, Beethoven IS GOD! I like just about everything by Beethoven.
Symphonies 3,5,6,7,9
Violin Concerto
Piano Concertos
Piano Sonatas (esp Hammerklavier, Waldstein, and Appassionata)
String Quartets

Recently, I'm looking into Wagner's musical dramas.... very interesting works. The story in the Ring cycle is marvelous. Most people who listen to Wagner only know his famous tunes like "Ride of the Valkyries" ... a shame really.

IMHO you really have to listen to all the movements of a multimovement piece to really appreciate it; especially with pieces like Beethoven's 5th.

<< Tchaikowsky is my favorite >>

Perhaps then you should take the time to learn the correct spelling of his name... just a thought.

The correct Russian spelling is:

ϸòð Èëüè÷ ×àéêîâñêèé

[edit: never mind, the forum software converts it to unreadable characters.]

From E. Grieg I definitely would recommend the Peer Gynt suite.
Or the Brandenburg Concertos arranged for 3 guitars.

I love anything by Dvorak, his sweeping string music is just amazing at times. Here's my list...

Dvorak - #9
Dvorak - New World Symphony (2nd Mvmt)
Bach - Air for G String (heh heh)
Reed - Armenian Dances (*got a little story bout this one, read below)
Grainger - Lincolnshire Posy (Particularly Horkstow Grange)

I had the good fortune of attending a high school who's band director had a multitude of contacts. When we played Armenian Dances senior year for our spring concert, we had the AMAZING honor of having Alfred Reed (the composer of the piece and many other beautiful works) come to our school one night for a few hours and teach us the correct way to play the song. Needless to say that is one song/concert i will NEVER FORGET! If you havent heard this work, FIND IT! You will not be dissapointed!

P.S.- Sorry for bringing back such an old thread, but why waste valuable forum space
