Listening to talk radio on the drive home yesterday, and the host hung up on a caller because he said the F word a couple times even after being told not to because he's on the air. Now I had no idea he siad the F word because they cut it out due to the delay. I dont understand why DJ's or talk show hosts get mad when people say words that are not allowed by the FCC when they bleep or just cut out the words before the audience hears it?

Yeah,, thats true,, but what i meant was, why do Dj's or hosts in general get mad. Not everyone gets told not to say bad words when they get on the air.

its bad PR to have callers swearing on air, even if it is bleeped out. bad PR = negative ratings = DJ gets fired

That's why I like listening to Howard Stern on Sirius. No censorship whatsoever.

common sense doesn't tell you not to drop an f-bomb on the radio?

You aren't seriously asking this, as a real, legitimate question, are you?

First off, the caller knows better. They don't need to be explicitly told. Secondly, bleeped or no, maybe the station doesn't want that kind of reputation? Jerry Springer is bleeped and approved for TV, but people don't exactly respect that show, now do they?

One missed bleep is a pretty big fine. I wouldn't take the chance either.

Common sense? No. Knowledge of FCC regs? Sure.

I know that you arent supposed to say certain words on the radio. You would be surprised and so is the Host of the talk show I listen to, on how many people DONT know that they cant say certain words on the air. And besides, not every person keeps up with FCC regs. You can say bitch, shit, ass, whore, slut, but not the F word. The talk show host i listen to says them repeatedly, but gets mad if someone says the F word,, which most the time the audience isnt even aware of because they dont BLEEP it out,, its just deleted and the only way you know they even said it is because the host tells them not to say it again.

Radios are on a delay, something like 9 seconds and bleeping one out takes away some of the delay until you can go to commercial break (you have to rewind and bleep it out if it was a surprise which most of the time it is). Too many cuss words before you can reset the delay means that you're hitting the wall and soon wont have the time to rewind and bleep out any surprise cuss words.

Cool,,, see now that would explain alot. Having their time cut off would be a good reason for them to not want to have to constantly edit.

Anyone with at least half a brain knows you can't say the F word on the radio. It's like the "king of swear words".
