Intent? I've seen the SS move decisively on FAR flimsier pretexts.

The guy is carrying a sign saying, "It's Time to Water the Tree of Liberty!" We all know, or should know, EXACTLY what he's referring to, SHEDDING BLOOD.

The famous quote by Thomas Jefferson:

?The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.?

Many loons on the right, several right here on this very forum, think Obama is a tyrant and call him a Nazi!

In 1984, I was 10 feet from where Ronald Reagan was speaking in Media, Pa. A Swarthmore College student dressed a tree with a sign saying, "Stop me before I kill again" -- OBVIOUSLY referring to Reagan's then recent and idiotic statement that trees kill more people with their CO2 pollution than cars was taken down and arrested by the SS for making a death threat on the President.

So, yeah, a guy with a gun and a sign calling for blood is something of an issue.

Good catch on the sign. So now the question is: is that his intent, or is it intended to raise ire and provoke an action that the right can then call an infringement?

Can you imagine the shit the Secret Service would have gotten if they didn't take that guy out and they had an attempt of the President's life?? Witha sign that says "Stop me before I kill him" they almost (yes I said almost) had to act.

In this guys case they had 2 hours before the President even came through the area. I'm confident that they would remove him if he was still there shortly before the President was due to arrive/come by. You just can't have people with guns standing around when the President drives by because you never know their intentions. Look at Jack Ruby.

Oh yeah, since we all know the Secret Service gives all it's agents Xray sunglasses, and they would've automagically known this guy had a gun.

Well, yeah, I think legally he's entirely protected, but so was the student protester in my example, imho.

I think that if either you or I were SS charged with preventing any possible national tragedy, we'd be inclined to act preemptively. Doesn't make it Constitutionally kosher, but it does make a modicum of basic common sense. <shrug>

The man had every right to carry a handgun at that location.

That said, if they so choose, the SS also has the right to remove him from that location if they deem him a threat to the President.

Still, he committed no crime.

God Bless the 2nd Amendment.

I lived in NH and I understand the mentality.

"Live free or die" isn't something that goes on a license plate. NH is fiercely independent and that the law is for everyone. They don't give a rats ass if its Obama or Bush, if its the law they follow it and they expect everyone from Satan to God to be bound by the law of the land.
Their collective perception is that if Obama doesn't want to accept the exercise of a lawful carry then VT is right across the river and don't let the door hit you in the ass on the way out. God I miss that state.

I agree, the president should not get special treatment. We all go outside every day and can get shot, he should have to take the same risks. We don't have royalty in this country.

Absolutely NOT. The very idea is abhorrent to me. I'm an idealist, 100% through and through. I do not do something that I don't believe in, no matter the cost.

Do they REALLY? Or do we all just like to think they do?

If the President decided he wanted to visit me in my house for instance, I'm sure the SS would love to remove my weapons. I would refuse of course, and they would have the choice of dealing with it, telling the President not to come, or facing violence from me if they attempted to remove them by force. But do they have any legal ground?

Is anyone aware of any laws which specifically attempt to circumvent individual rights and liberty at the whim of the President in this type of incident?

News Bimbo: "Why can't we get rid of him now"

Newscaster: "when will these words turn into violence?"
LOL - Funny, the SEIU saw to that.

This isn't really all that hard to give everyone what they are entitled to. You have three SS agents between him and the president. He is read the riot act and if he goes for it, shoot him. That's the rewards and risks of freedom. The NH guy will get it.

Why the fuck did he bring a gun to a political rally, one where the POTUS was scheduled to speak? "'Cause the Constatwoshun says he can, sumbitch! Yeehaw! Let's hang some black folks!"

Care to explain all the other thousands of times it's happened over our nation's history? After all, this is the first black President, so it's not a racial thing. Why do people bring them to rallies of Presidents they support for instance?

Could it be that maybe some people are just always armed? No, no...that's far too simple and logical and would disturb your sheltered world view. Sorry, my bad.

Maybe a mod should check out this guy's recent posts and decide if he is trolling, racist, or both.

The Secret Service does not have unlimited resources and agents to protect the life of the President of the United States from grudge holding loons and crazies. Those three agents are threes agents less to protect him from all the many other possible threats along that route.

Your cavalier attitude -- "That's the risks and rewards of freedom", hyuck, hyuck -- is uncharacteristically primitive and juvenile of you and disgusts me.
