Fedex Int'l rates..WTF?

I had to send a document to Morocco this morning. My options where:

2 days delivery for $102.
One week delivery for $76.

Its just a document, well actually 3 pieces of paper. I felt it was outrageously expensive considering a plane leaves NYC everyday to Casablanca.
Also my mom sent me the same doc. last week for ~$45 from a Chronopost, they used DHL once the package is in the US.

Should I have gone somewhere else? UPS or DHL?

O/w simple US mail is usually the cheapest.

I used US mail before and it took them 6 weeks to deliver a letter.
I needed to send original document.

try dhl they have a far larger global network than UPS or FedEX could ever dream of. in fact DHL gets shipments from UPS or FedEx for some of the international stuff. Still prob wont be cheap to send quicky though.

a few months ago, my wife sent a package to a friend in london via fedex. i think it was $75 to ship it there with the standard rate.

FedEx and UPS suck for international and even national shipping. DHL for international.

Agreed. Here in my part of Canada, UPS and Fedex just dump their parcels onto Canada Post or the Greyhound...resulting in incredibly slow and expensive shipping.

DHL has a local office and is incredibly fast, only 3 or 4 days for my last parcel from the east coast...

I sent an item overseas a few weeks ago and it was $130 or something via Fedex.

I bought some electronic components from Hong Kong. The shipping was about $5 and they arrived in less than a week.

Will be cheaper. But it is handled by Fedex. I believe they hand it over to the countries posta; system.
