The CG looks good, can't tell too much from gameplay... maybe similar to FF15?

Meh. FF7 was never that good anyway.
Should remake FF4J or FF6J. I will still pick this up, I just never got into FF active battle systems. They probably just wanted to change the game up.
gonna start a shit storm but 8 9 10 were all better then 7, both story and game playSadly, it's far better than any FF that came after it.

Ugh... why can't you just give me a normal turn-based battle system? I've been turned off of so many jRPGs because I just don't enjoy the combat. Note the word "enjoy" meaning I did try the game in question. More often than not, I've usually been turned off by games that try to meld too much of what I prefer to be separate. For example, I never got as much into some of the tactical shooters, because I thought that they were too much like arena shooters. In my mind, I'd rather play Rainbow Six or Quake III, but not Call of Duty.

Have you played any of them after 7? 7 is one of the most overrated games of all time. It wasn't that good then, and it has aged terribly. 8, X, 12, 13 and 13-2 were all better.
Final Fantasy VII Remake Will Be “a Multi-Part Series;” Each Part Will Provide a “Unique Experience”
Square Enix just sent a press release to DualShockers mentioning that the upcoming Final Fantasy VII Remake will be a “multi-part series.” Below you can read the relevant text:
“During this past weekend’s PlayStation Experience in San Francisco, SQUARE ENIX® debuted a new trailer for FINAL FANTASY® VII REMAKE, the full remake of the award-winning role-playing game, FINAL FANTASY VII. The new trailer features the first CG scenes as well as gameplay footage. FINAL FANTASY VII REMAKE will be told across a multi-part series, with each entry providing its own unique experience.“That’s a pretty surprising approach, even if we still have to understand exactly what it means, what kind of unique experiences the development team intends to offer, and the reasons behind this development and publishing choice.
One possibility that comes to mind, is that an episodic approach will allow Square Enix to get the game in our hands faster, instead of waiting for the full thing to be completed before releasing it.
If FF7 remake ends up being a button smasher, I won't get it though I loved FF7 (and was one of those who jumped in joy when Sony made the announcement).
Xenogears is superior by thousands of orders of magnitude.
Based on just the trailer alone, I don't see any indication that it isn't turn based (the menu is there in the bottom left as usual). Just looks like really fancy attack animations once you select attack.
This was the start of Square focusing on glitter and glam over substance and it happened at the right time on the right system to create some huge mainstream following by mistake. And this mainstream took a liking to the start of the "Im too billy bad ass for my motorcycle/katana/sunglasses" 733t Akuma/Sepiroth era of gaming. From this point on we lost the innocence of JRPG characters and every main character from here on was some nuclear rocket launching 1000lb sword wielding spiked hair and earrings attitude douchebag running up the side of buildings untouchable uber bad ass.
I wonder if part of the difference between FF7 and the earlier games comes from a disconnect between Amano's work and the end result. Looking up his credited work, FF7 seems to be the last time he ever got credit for original character design for a Final Fantasy game. Hell, for the last couple titles, he just made the title image. Although, I found it interesting just going to Google Images and typing in "Amano Final Fantasy 7" just to see how different his artwork is from the game itself.
