I don't know where i stopped with Ni no Kuni, but I really didn't care for the battle system.

Another trailer:

We'll have to see if it ends up being a good game, but the visuals are real nice. Given how long it's taken them, I still think there's only going to end up being one episode only.

My favorite is FF4J. I believe most people's favorite (who have played all in the series) is FF6J.

I'm with you. That is always my favorite (this is FF2 right--the one in the US?) I enjoyed it way more than 3, but I still enjoyed 3 quite a bit.

I also thought FF 7 was great...absolutely spectacular for its time. I guess people just can't appreciate how truly crappy those games got after FF 7. ...whether because of 7 or not, it was the last really good one. I liked 9 a lot, but agree the story was garbage and the characters meaningless and pointless, but I loved the battle system and the character classes.

FF7 had too much story and not enough game.
They went batshit with the CD's and loaded them with vids and cutscenes. I sincerely hope the new game allows skipping, cuz thats seriously about 2/3 of the play time right there.

FF7 had about a hour of FMV. My play throughs would tend to weigh in at the 40-80 hour mark depending on even I did the minimum to finish the mandatory bosses or explored every nook and cranny and got the best gear.

yeah there was very little to those FMV at the time, length wise...and again it's one of those things that is hard to appreciate in retrospect. It was a rare thing at the time, outside of Wing Commander years before and certainly not really on consoles at that time, but I don't remember anything with that fidelity. They were gorgeous and just different. ...maybe 1 minute at a time for the most part.

I had a file that was all level 99 toons (except Cait Sith. screw that asshole). The biggest gripe I ever had with FF7 was the battle system. It wasn't the worst, but the whole materia system pretty much eliminated classes for the most part--every toon could basically be any other toon, outside of somewhat unique limit breaks.

FFX was the best battle system, I think. ...the leveling though presented the same problem as materia in late game. Once you pass your class zone in that sphere grid, pretty much every toon can be all the toons. Very close, anyway.

The thing I always liked about what I call FF2, is that you didn't have all of the "false freedom" that later games offered: choosing your party, progress, class abilities. It really locked down into who did what and what they were, because of the story. Honestly, there's more freedom in that in many ways, because you don't fall into holes of choosing skills and such, so you're free to just play the game.

Which version of FFX? originally the US got a different version to us internationals.

I also quite liked the FF-XII system as well.

I don't know where i stopped with Ni no Kuni, but I really didn't care for the battle system.

An older post in this thread, but it mirrors my time with Ni no Kuni as well. I wasn't super far into the game... an hour or two maybe, and I was fighting some boss on the mountain. I had to block some AoE attack, and it became so cumbersome to swap to the other party member just to pull the familiar back in and such. I really liked the game's aesthetics and everything, but I just was not a fan of the battle system.

Tifa's bossom was nerfed hard.

I figured she finally invested in a good, form-fitting sports bra. It doesn't really bother me as it makes more sense for a busty melee fighter to keep "the girls" in check anyway!

FF4 had one advantage over FF6... a tighter narrative that didn't feel a bit excessive when it came to extra characters. To be fair, those extra characters in FF6 weren't necessary, but that also meant they felt a bit superfluous.

For me, FF4 was a good game, but FF6 has the superior soundtrack, which gives it big points for me.

I always thought that FF7 was the start of the story issues. It's not that FF7 had a bad story, but rather that its base narrative felt like a plot construed by a student that just finished Philosophy 101. In trying to craft less trope-y stories, I think that's also where they started pushing for more proper nouns, which culminated in the goofy names you saw in FF13 (l'Cie and fal'Cie) that make one raise a brow just reading the synopsis.

This is why I stop playing FF. I'd rather play this if it was a turn-based game.

They're adding a classic combat mode to the game. Now, it's still technically action-based, but the idea is that the movement will be automated and the menu will be driven by the player. It seems like an odd take, and I'm rather curious in how well it will work in the end.

Just wait everyone, try your best to not read anything about it, just play it as if you never played it before!

I'm disappointed that the game supposedly ends at leaving Midgar. That's so early in the game. I thought it would end with the part with Aeris. I was prepared for the game to be split in half but wow. I guess they're really going to try to churn five games out of this thing.

they need to remake 2/4. tight plot, characters that did different things, etc. i think the everyone ends up with the same abilities may have started with 5 but i didn't have much time in that. by late game 3/6 all my characters were just double-casting the big damage spell each round. one problem with 3/6 is that the ostensible main character keeps leaving and (iirc) returns underpowered compared to everyone else.

FF4 (SNES) was my favorite game, but I think it's because it was my first Final Fantasy game. The music, plot, fighting - perfect. I see many people like 3/6 more. I also like 3/6 but it's just behind FF4. I prefer Chrono Trigger and Super mario RPG over both, barely.

In regards to FF7, I didn't know it stopped at leaving Midgar - wtf? That takes no time at all. That is severely disappointing. Are we supposed to be paying $60 a pop every chapter?

looking at games nowadays, outer worlds, etc. It's a good time to be alive. But I feel like my childhood game playing was better. NES/SNES seemed perfect in comparison.

For me, the fact that one could reasonably argue whether Terra or Celes is the main character is part of the charm of 3/6.

Cyan, and Interceptor.
Also I was so pumped about this remake, but if they think I'm going to shell out multiple $60 episode purchases, they are wrong.

To note, they've expanded upon the story, which is supposed to make it last longer than what you'd get in the original game. Now, whether that added story is actually good and/or substantial enough is something that we'll find out at release!

So, Aeris doesn't die?
