You didn't see his original posts. He's unwilling to open his case; trust us - a Dell system (or a Mac) is by far the best choice for him.

I saw the comments. I'm trying to say that he shouldn't be unwilling to build his own, much less open his case.

I don't have time.

I need the computer sent to me, with a warranty and everything installed.

I don't have the willingness to follow a DIY guide and spend dozens of hours installing everything and teaking the BIOS etc..

Maybe I'll buy a cheaper system and learn then, but I'm not going to risk it with my first system.

I don't have the privilege of being able to upgrade my computer every 2 years like some people here.

Yes, a decent quality 300W PSU will support an 8800GTS. The watts aren't important, the amps on the 12V rail are, and Dell doesn't skimp on its 12V rail the way the manufacturers of cheap PSUs do.

BTW, I just put together the system you bought, but I applied the $350 off coupon. It came out to $998 (with $20 more spent on speakers since I couldn't find that model of speaker you quoted, but I did get the same 19" LCD). You really should use that coupon... (price quoted is before tax)

Edit: Opps - $1078 - I forgot about Encarta/Word/etc. Still, that's $220 less.

Neither does Acer, apparently.

Pretty good deal eh?

Throw in an 8800GTS and it's still cheaper than the XPS 410.

Great find guys. You saved me a s**t load of cash.

The poster with that coupon helped a lot!

I'd not do $80 for McAfee - Avast is free.

I'd have a tough time spending $$ on MS Word XP, too - does anyone today not already own at least one version of Word from some computer sale or other?

And RE: The 8300GS - I'm surprised you'd buy that. I'd thought you wanted to play games. That will play them, but barely. If gaming was your intent, why not buy with Intel graphics (save $50), and then slap in the 8800GTS when you get it?

I didn't get the 8300GS.

I got the 8600GT.

Only suckers buy Dell at retail prices. The system in the OP is horribly overpriced.

The Dell Inspiron 530 won't fit dual slot video cards by the way. Should have got an XPS 410.

The besy way to buy a Dell is to get a Refurb and upgrade it yourself. And no, that does not void the warranty.

Doesn't matter. If he bought a Dell from dell.com, even if he used a coupon code, he got ripped a new one.

And again, with the Insp 530, he is limited to a single slot video card, i.e., no 8800 GTS.

Really?

Can you put together a C2D 1.83 system for under $649 with 22" Dell monitor? (Emphasis, Dell 22" monitor) ?

Please show us how. Please include a legal copy of Vista Home Premium, 250GB, C2D1.83.

The spec's of that system are low. 1GB of memory, low-end C2D, etc. Plus the Insp 530 design limits him to a single slot video card.

He would have been better off getting a refurb (or previously ordered new), that comes with the exact warranty, and upgrading it where necessary, and getting a 22in LCD elsewhere.

So, yeah, building is more expensive, that is not the direction I was going. I linked to an XPS 410 earlier, with an E6320, and 2GB of ram for less than 450. Better system, better chipset, supports dual slot video cards, and the PSU can easily handle an 8800 GTX.

Or he could have pick up one of these and added a dvd burner, and a hard drive and picked up a 22in lcd elsewhere and spent about the same amount.

So he *didn't* get 'ripped a new one', but it's possible his needs are significantly lower than yours. Would you say that's fair?

For the love of god, let this thread die - if he's finally settled on his new Dell system and ordered, thank god - lets stop second guessing him and let the guy move on with his life. The rest of us could have certainly done more with the same money, but with his complete lack of risk tolerance and unwillingness to try doing some work on his own system limited his options severely.

Read the god d@mn thread.

I ordered the 510 with 2 gigs of memory, E6420 (opposed to the XPS E4320,) vista, 320 gig HD, DVDR/W, 19" monitor, etc..

The other downpoint is the 8600GT, but that's good enough for me (it can run BF2 perfectly.)

All this at an AMAZING $1,020. The XPS 410 had exactly the same specs aside from a 375 WATT PSU, E320, and an 8600GTS.

You know what the total was?

$1,560 shipped.

With the 510, I can use the extra $500 bucks to replace the PSU and get an 8800GT or GTX...hell, maybe an ULTRA and it would cost exactly the same as the XPS 410.

I didn't want the 20 or 22" monitor considering it would weaken my gaming resolution (it's only an 8600GT, not 8800GTX.)

READ THE THREAD before criticizing. I mentioned the specs several times.

I would also like to vouch for Dclive's statement that a 300 watt PSU can support an 8800GTS 320. I have the same Acer Q6600 system he is referring to and am running an 8800GTS 320 completely stable.

No, you can't. Why? Because like I said, twice, in this thread, the system you bought does NOT fit dual slot video cards. That is why I suggested the XPS 410, and no, I didn't suggest you pay $1500+ either. [/quote]

I wish I had seen this thread before, I could have helped. I buy 100's of Dell systems every year.

Hell, I have an E520 with an E6300, 2GB, and 8600 GTS on Ebay right now for $750.

Some people are too smart for their own good, I'm sure we'll be seeing an "I just ordered a Dell and it only allows single slot video cards, how do I return it?!?" thread in about 2 weeks.

Why??

No, you can't. Why? Because like I said, twice, in this thread, the system you bought does NOT fit dual slot video cards.

Ok. What kind of videocards can I upgrade to?

7950GT? 8800GTS? What?

That is why I suggested the XPS 410, and no, I didn't suggest you pay $1500+ either.

$1,500 is the cheapest. I need an O/S, monitor, flash reader, 2 gigs of ram, etc..

Total comes to $1,500. You can't make anymore cheaper unless you downgrade the card to a 7300LE or get rid of the flash reader...which would only be like $200 bucks less.

I wish I had seen this thread before, I could have helped. I buy 100's of Dell systems every year.

By your recommendations, and your inability to calculate hardware appropriately (as in I need a monitor, cpu, videocard, o/s, etc..)

Hell, I have an E520 with an E6300, 2GB, and 8600 GTS on Ebay right now for $750.

I could have gotten the same thing - although that would be WITHOUT monitor and 320 gig HD.

Now, back to the dual-slot card thing.

What upgrades am I looking at in the future (GPU wise?)

I like to see you show me a computer with the SAME EXACT specs as my 510 at a lower price (that's not from a separate retailer like ebay, which doesn't come with the warranty I require.)

Including the monitor, HD, GPU, SOFTWARE, etc..
