Hey guys. Going to throw my situation at you and see what sort of help I can get. Already started on another thread in the GPU section.

Trying to build the most reasonable computer possible for AROUND 700$. May be able to go up to 750$ if absolutely necessary.

The CURRENT build.

COOLER MASTER Elite 330 RC-330-KKN1-GP Black SECC ATX Mid Tower Computer Case
ASUS P8H67-V (REV 3.0) LGA 1155 Intel H67 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard with UEFI BIOS
PNY XLR8 VCGGTX4601XPB-OC GeForce GTX 460 (Fermi) OC 1GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Support Video Card
CORSAIR Builder Series CX430 V2 430W ATX12V v2.3 80 PLUS Certified Active PFC Power Supply
Intel Core i5-2400 Sandy Bridge 3.1GHz (3.4GHz Turbo Boost) LGA 1155 95W Quad-Core Desktop Processor BX80623I52400
Western Digital Caviar Blue WD1600AAJS 160GB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive -Bare Drive

LITE-ON DVD Burner - Bulk Black SATA Model iHAS124-04 - OEM

Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 64-bit - OEM

Current total is 729$ with no monitor. I have a few leads on cheap monitors in the 50$ range that won't break me completely. If I can trim a little more fat somewhere it would help but at this point, I think I hit my limit on that and be satisfied. Already dissapointed I will not be getting the 2500k!

Yeah you've got me ....

Double the HDD for the same price? I dunno. Already switched lol.
As for the HDD as a whole I do not worry too much about those yet. It will be awhile before I even load up on the 160GB let alone 320GB.

A few comments:
- 500GB drives are also $40, so get one of those. There is a certain fixed cost to manufacturing a drive, and that's why the small ones are terrible cost per gig.
- That mobo is way more expensive than you need it to be. You're better off with a cheap H61 board and a better GPU. The Biostar H61ML gets you $60 to play with.
- No RAM listed? You will want at least a 4GB kit like this Kingston.
- After spending $25 on the RAM, you have $35 more to spend on the GPU. Luckily, that upgrades you to the 6870.

Main problem with that build is that a Raidmax PSU (as noted) has a non-trivial chance of blowing up (and your computer with it).

Ken, why do you say that the 430CX is "iffy" with the GTX 460? It's got 28A on the 12V. You will need to use a Molex to PCIe adapter, but otherwise it should work fine. Now, it won't handle any overclocking, that's for sure.

That Corsair 430W is a little iffy with the GTX 460. We've been over that before in the graphics cards thread. Try this PSU/HDD bundle.

Edit: Don't forget the case/Win7 bundle!

Yes, that would be a better suggestion. My point being is the Corsair 430watt has a much better chance of survival than the Raidmax... any day The Corsair CX430 would work with his setup. It just won't leave him with much headroom at all..

Edit: http://www.hardwaresecrets.com/article/Corsair-CX430-Power-Supply-Review/1200/8 This review shows that its capable of handling well over 500 watts.
