Firefox Myths

Myth (Definition) - A fiction or half-truth, especially one that forms part of an ideology. While Firefox is a decent Web Browser, there are numerous Myths floating around the Internet regarding it. Hopefully this site will debunk some of these.

This covers many of the popular Firefox Myths. You will be surprised by what you think you know about Firefox.

Those are real myths. Lots of people mistakenly think switching to FF will mean faster web browsing and more secure web browsing. 99% of the unsafe web browsing is due to people going to bad sites, which can be an issue even on FF.

Fact: Neither does Firefox. You cannot compare two software applications by what you can get plugins for. You can get an ad blocking program for IE and every other browser out there.

Except the fact that browsing with IE6 for 2 minutes is guaranteed to get you spyware on your system unlike firefox, haven't had to do a "spyware scan" for ages because I use firefox and I haven't been infected since I don't use IE.

You are an idiot. I browse on IE 5 days a week and never get spyware. You are believing in all the myths out there still. IE doesn't cause spyware, going to bad sites does.

Wow, yeah IE isn't that unsafe. The problem with it in this area is that all the malware writers out there target the most popular browser... using anything but IE is just intrinsically safer. Safe surfing will beat malware 99% of the time, but not always.. and in that 1%, a non-IE browser really shines. Personally though, I use FireFox because it's not tied into the OS, because it offers tabbed browsing and because of the huge amount of skins and extensions available. Here's a pic of my current setup.

Yes you can, the FF people made it easier to write extensions and they should be applauded for that. Where can I download this adblock for IE?

So I should restrict my browsing and be afraid to click on links because IE sucks?

There are a lot more "bad sites" then you think. I'd be very surprised if you were spyware clean and haven't had to run a spyware scan... Are you saying that you don't run a spyware scanner or is it that you run one every week to get rid of the crap you accumulate with internet explorer?

I have no doubts I can use IE for a time and walk away spyware free.

Firefox is not 100% Internet Explorer and ActiveX compatible.

fact:i visited a site through ie and got a virus (easily removed). the next day i installed firefox and went to the site for s hits and giggles (since i already knew how to remove it). VOILA ! NO VIRUS!

oh yea. ie doesn't ahve probably the best extension available. NOSCRIPT! (if you don't have it yet, go get it now)
