Firefox sucks? Try disabling Adblock

I was having a weird problem where Google Chrome was slow as balls and it would freeze. I fired up Firefox and it's the same garbage if not worse. It turns out they both sucked because Adblock was slowing everything down. I turned it off and the difference is like night and day. Websites like cracked.com are almost unreadable when Adblock is running. The page will load for a couple seconds, then the tab completely freezes and scrolling doesn't work. It sits like that for about 10 seconds. Without Adblock, the page loads immediately and scrolling works right away.

Sorry for making a new thread about this, but it seems like something that should be stickied.

Strange. I just tried it and it loaded quickly for me. It could be a problem with your profile or something like that?

do you use flashblock as well?

I used adblock before but now use Ad Muncher because it does a better job for me. Though I will give adblock create for it being easier to block a certain ad you do not want to see easily. You can do the same with Ad Muncher but it is a little less straight forward. I have used both before but only because it was easier getting adblocker to get rid of certain ads manually, at least with Element Hiding Helper for Adblock Plus addon.

My older pc uses AdBlock because I don't feel like paying for Ad Muncher twice. I am thinking about getting it for my older pc but not sure yet. It was free for a year a while ago. I prefer Ad Muncher even though it does cost money. Mainly because it blocks even video ads on Vevo. Even on news websites. The only thing I haven't figured out yet but will sooner or later is how to block those annoying advertisements in gaming servers.

I doubt it. This problem happens on every computer, and no the profiles are not synced.

Flashblock and Noscript. They do a pretty good job of preventing bullcrap from loading along the sides, which is a major problem on sites like cracked or CNN or the escapist.

I use Ad Block, Flashblock and noscript on my older pc. No problems. Current pc only flashblock and noscript with ad muncher.

There is one scenario where Ad Block can slow you down.

I used firefox with XP for a long time with many add ons and no issues. Since moving to win7 firefox sometimes bogs my CPU down, have yet to figure out whats going on with it.

I have that with my older p4 with 512 MB of ram but not my new Sandy Bridge.

How old is your computer?

cracked.com loads fine for me with FF and ABP enabled (along with noscript). I don't have issues on any site like you are describing, actually.

If I was going to disable ABP I might as well just use IE to browse.

cracked.com works fine here with Ad Muncher. Of course with noscript I must first allow some scripts first for it to work fully.

I seen Ad Block do this before to some things. Though it is rare.

Is your Java up to date?

Gizmodo was a tad slower than cracked for me, but no where near 10 seconds and scrolling worked right away.
