Firewire and USB and my laptop?

Guys......don't know if this can be worked out.

I have 2 ethernet ports and one USB port......no firewire port......so if I want to get a CD-RW drive which is firewire based....can I attach to my laptop using some adopter or something. If yes How ? but read further.....At the same time I do not want to compromise on the speed....so if a CD-RW which is all I will have for now (maybe an external HDD too), will I be compromising on a speeed a LOT ?


Plz Advise.

Dude, the limiting factor on the speed in the CD mechanics themselves. No matter how high the bandwidth of the cable, you're only going to get data onto/off of the CD at the rate the thing spins under the laser.

I'm pretty sure you can get a firewire adapter that plugs into your card slot. I think they're about $20 or so, but I'm not sure.
