Firewire on Intel Springdale D865PERL

Does anybody know for sure if onboard firewire is available on the Intel Springgdale D865PERL retail boxed version? And if so if there is a model designation that indicates it is included?

Their previous 845PE board had it for OEMs and gave it to review sites, but never put it into retail distribution.
Have they changed this time around?

The Intel site is unclear on this to me . It does list it as an option ( like they did the last time), but I can't find a clear model designation that definitely has it. When I poke around on line, I am not seeing it.

Also, anybody have experience with its onboard sound? Any better on the D865PERL than the old D845PEBT2 ?

the onboard sound is the same as the D845PEBT2 (soundmax cadenza).

Thanks,
I am happy to hear that you have it, but the designations are still pretty murky to me... When I searched the intel site for D865PERLK, I got nothing.. only the D865PERL. And when I go to pricegrabber, iI only get two hits .. Google gear and one other. Neither one says definitively that their D865PERLK has the Firewire, though it mentions the gigabit lan and other features. One has some boilerplate description from Intel that says Firewire (optional).. which is the same as when the previous board was out and Firewire was actually not really available.
I see you got yours from Axiontech. I checked there and there is no mention of the Firewire either. DId you call them to find out, or were you just pleasantly surprised? Did you get the retail box or the OEM? I wonder if that is the difference.

So the SoundMax Cadenza is the same, Huh? I think they add on some other software that enhances MP3 playback " Sonic Focus". Any good or is it window dressing. I am hoping I will be Ok for a little while before I add on a good sound card.

Any idea why Axiontech doesn't show up on pricegrabber?

I hope this is the board for me. Probably will wait about a month and get it with a 2.4c.. Hopefully a DDR3200 price rise doesn't wipe out any money I save on the board and processor.

If I am just going for stability and will not overclock, anysuggestions on the RAM? Will probably put in to sticks of 512 for a gig. WIll Crucial be OK?

May have answered my own question...

For some reason Newegg has the D865PERLK and it also was not coming up on pricegrabber. They have OEM D865PERLK and D865PERLL. Both are described as having Firewire. I think it may be the OEM is the key. I suspect the boxed retail will not have. I think the K designation is for the Gigabit LAN.
The 875P board, however does not have the Firewire.
Not sure if I will ever need the Gigabit LAN or not. The hubs are real $$$ aren't they?

I have the boxed RETAIL D865PERLK (The board says D865PERL) but a sticker on the side states D865PERK <-- it has onboard firewire via the AGERE chipset.. I bought it from axiontech

I got two boards from them, both of them had built in firewire (two D865PERLK retail)..

As for RAM, I'm running two KINGSTON 512MB KVR400X64C3A/512 for 1 GB in DUAL CHANNEL mode and they work perfectly with the board, no lockup issues - been playing games too.. Got em for 78$ each..

shouldn't be a problem on the D875PBZ <-- just pair it up with an AUDIGY 2 which gives you sound + firewire and you should be good to go..

Yeah, that's what I'll probably end up doing. I just wish the base Audigy 2 had pins for the firewire so I could hook it up to my case's front port.

the AUDIGY 2 does have two pins, it has an INTERNAL 5-PIN SB1394 header - the pinout can be downloaded from creative's website (saw it there before, in PDF format). (I hooped up my ANTEC SX835II to it which has front FIREWIRE ports).

Well, there goes my theory on their designations... Wonder if all the K boards have it or if it is just an undesignated option that some have and some don't.

I see the Kingston DDR 3200 is about ten bucks cheaper that the Crucial. Think it will work just as well? Don't plan to overclock more than the 4% burn in mode trick that Intel lets you do. Actually, Newegg is sold out of both at the moment. ( Though I have until near the end of June until I will build)

Kingston KVR400X64C3A/512 (which are Kingston Value RAM DDR 3200) are validated for intel canterwood and springdale mobo's - have them running at in Dual Channel mode (2 x 512MB) perfectly on the D865PERLK @ SPD (DDR 400). The GEIL PC3500 ULTRA PLATINUMs I've had was quite unstable with the board at SPD (had to relax the timings).

Got two of them for sale for 150$ shipped - don't need them anymore as newegg has mailed out the replacement GEIL's (RMA'd my GEIL PC3500 ULTRA PLATINUMS because they didn't run at SPD with the Springdale/Canterwood boards)

I'm thinking that all D865PERLK's have Firewire built in (the two that I got from axiontech had it - Retail BOXED versions).. The pictures from newegg's site (D865PERLK OEM's) also show that their boards have the agere chip in it (it's the one on the RIGHT MOST SIDE by the PCI slot)..
