Brand new build as of today. Assembled everything: Asus P5W DH Deluxe, C2D-6400,
Powered up machine, lights go on, fans whirl, hdd makes noise, nothing on the screen-black. Not even any beeps.
I thought maybe the graphics card, plugged in an old one, still nothing.
Any thoughts?

Was there power to the monitor? Are you sure there was power to the motherboard? Sorry, just got my first build online so not sure =/ There are two different powerplugs that go into the motherboard I got so maybe you missed one?

My thoughts exactly regarding extra Power connectors.

There may be a four pin connector by the CPU.

Also, depending on your Graphics card, you may need to plug in an additional 6 pin in the back of the Card itself. There may also be a four pin on the Motherboard that you may need to connect as well.

Mobo has 20 pin and 4 pin plugged in. Video card (PCI-E16) has additional power plugged in. I also hooked up an old simple graphics card, nothing on either. Could this be a dead mobo problem, how common is that?

I just ran into this problem and it was a bad CPU. Before I'd send the CPU back, I'd pull everything out including the mobo, male sure all the standoffs are in and there are none in you don't need, then hook up the video card with the mbo out of the case. Then put he mobo in and check one item at a time. If no video when the mobo is out of the case, it's likely either the mobo or CPU

What kind of psu are you using? It may not be powerful enough. I have run into that more than once.

Your system needs the 24-pin main connector, like in this pic, plus the ATX12V like in this pic. Note that the ATX12V has two yellow wires, two black wires. It goes in the upper-rear corner of your motherboard.

Any good? And yeah, you want it to be a decent PSU, not just any junk brand.

Thanks for the feedback all. To reiterate. Yes, I have both power plugs in. Yes, I think a brand new 600 W psu should be enough. Also, I am getting no beeps from the speaker.

I am now on my third mobo. Unless I hear any other good ideas, I am going to start swapping parts with any known working parts I have around the house. Maybe this will identify the defective part.

Is it safe to assume that Asus wouldn't produce three doa mobos? The real mystery to me is why mobo #2 posted and allowed me access to the Bios for about 20 minutes before it locked up and died.

Any thoughts?

One more thing, I checked the power supply with a voltmeter and a psu wiring diagram, everything reads the correct voltage. I know the video card works. What else could cause this besides the cpu and the mobo?
