first build horrors

A mate told me not to buy but to build and he would show me how. Got all the stuff, he looked unsure while setting the dip switches for the clock speed etc, but said he knew what he was doing. Burning smell, you can fill the rest in

I connected a Thermaltake HSF unit which had a variable speed fan on it to the FAN ONLY line on an Antec Truepower. Somehow the combination of the reduced voltage coming off that line and the variable resistor that slowed down the fan speed caused the wire that ran fom the molex coming off the PSU into the rheostat to heat up to the point that the insulation melted and I could see the wire glowing red hot.

turned the computer on while my fingers were to close to a Delta fan.

Ouch, 7000rpms hurt.

If you use a compressed air can to clean out dust and it condenses on your video card, do not restart your machine until the front has completely disappated, other wise a nice blue flame and pop frys the card and the mobo.

built my first 2 this year no problems but was like a mother hen would put something in , double check it..look again, reread instructions, look again, find a website that talked about it, look again...lol you get the idea now that I'm experienced and cocky will probably blow something up next time.

I connected my floppy power cable *backwards*...same result. Oops!

Forgot to put the PCIE Molex Power connector on my X800XT PCIE

Didn't break anything, all it said on the screen was "CONNECT MOLEX POWER TO VIDEO CARD" in red letters
