I might have a movie date tonite. She mentioned that she wants to see the grudge. First off, this is a first date. I know for sure what movie she wants to see. I still have to call her today around 5 pm to seal the date. My question is whether to include dinner with the date or not. It would be better if we had a group of people coming along, but that's a luxury that we don't have at the moment. I want to make this as comfortable as possible, so not including dinner may take off the pressures of a date for both her and I.

However, If I include the dinner it will most likely please her, since we would both have a good meal out of the evening in case the movie is a flop.

Definitely do dinner afterwards. You don't get much of a chance to talk during a movie. If the movie sucks, so much the better, you can both rant about it's cheesiness afterwards.

Okay, I will do exactly as you say next Sunday evening. We made plans for that time since I called her at 4:30pm today, and the weekend is already just about shot.

Yeah. I think just drinks would keep things more comfortable than dinner. You can always order food if you want, but just don't label it as "dinner" since that has a stigma attached to it and basically confirms it's a date.

You are right. I will take her to cheesecake factory for drinks and dessert after the movies. I will be hungry during the movie, so I believe nachos, hotdogs, and soda may be a good idea as long as she's okay having some too.

Why does it matter if you make it look like a date? It IS a date. Take her to dinner. If you will be hungry before the movie, then ask her if she wants to grab something to eat before the movie. (FYI - as a girl i would be irritated if the guy pigged out during the movie on our first date rather than getting something to eat together) If she says yes, have a restaurant or two in mind and see if she is interested in going to either of them. If she says no to dinner (although I doubt she will), then eat before the movie but offer to get popcor. If things go well through dinner and the movie, after the movie you can ask her if she's up for grabbing a drink or coffee somewhere.

Okay, I will do exactly as you suggest. Thank you.

You're probably right. It's 3:43pm right now. I'm going to have to wait until 4:30pm to call her to make things look cool and collect. The person who introduced us had already called her at 3pm to find out that I hadn't called her saturday night (last night). Therefore I would have to wait at least until 4:30pm to explain to her that I was with my Dad yesterday.

Dinner and a movie. Dinner AFTER movie usually works, because you have a starting point and you can work you way from there.

Agreed. You can always resort back to discussing the movie during awkward silences. So just be like "Man I cant stop thinking how creepy that little kid's meowing-noise was" or something like that.

man, if you're anything near this girl's age, why do you need to ask for first date advice on a computer forum?

"And the usual Ruffie Colada for your date?" "NO, no, no. . . Just bring us some wine."

I don't like to go see movies for a first date. The point of the first date is to see if you want to see that person again. If you see a movie (no talking) and stop there, how can you possibly know? I'd rather meet for coffee or lunch, something casual to get to know that person so I can determine if I want to waste my time seeing her again.

edit: And call her already. It's so lame that people want to be perceieved as busy. If some lamer called me late in the afternoon, I might already have plans, because they never called. hmmm...

I think your plan and your execution suck. Hopefully your date will go better.

STOP calling it a date, you're going to freak yourself out. see the movie, take her out for some drinks/dessert afterwards. Ask her if she wants to grab a bite before the movie.
Don't invite anyone else. You're in control. Have a good time.

Okay, I'll call her at 4:30pm. It is the right time to call since it's an hour and half after our mutual friend called her and it's a couple hours prior to the sun setting. I agree that my plan and execution suck, but I have to roll with the way things are already.
