Alright I have a lot of important school stuff on my floppy disk and last night I put another file on it and when I put the floppy into my comp this morning I am getting an error that says the floppy is not formatted should I format it now? This is very perplexing to me and yes I am sure that it is the same floppy.. I need help anyway to recover those files or get the floppy to work or why this happens to begin with??

Floppy diskettes are very powerful, and as we all know, power corrupts. Therefore you can expect your floppy diskettes to become corrupted at times.

To recover files... ugh. Well, you might give PC Inspector a try. Good luck, and may I recommend making triplicate copies of anything that you cannot save any other way except for on a floppy. If possible, I'd suggest getting a Yahoo email account and emailing yourself a copy of anything that's critically important, so you can retrieve it from anywhere in the world.

If you want to get the files of of the floppy:

DO NOT FORMAT!!!!

(Sorry mechBgon, I had to make sure he saw that. You missed his first question. )

Now that that is said... mechBgon has a better suggestion than I, so try to follow through on that.

Yeah use that program or use the built in scan disk to check for errors.

I have found in the past that the disk can come up as being unformatted if you take it out while the drive is still accessing the disk, floppies are notoriously unreliable and I will not be unhappy to see them fade away and be replace by USB flash drives...

I tried it in another computer and got the same message. Another interesting note was I took another floppy and put the same file on that one and now I am getting the same msg with that floppy... How is it that this file is doing this?

Perhaps a virus has infected that computer, but it could be a failing floppy drive too.
