I was pretty Meh about the whole foldable phone thing but the more I see of the galaxy flip the more I like about it.
I'm definitely going to have to go play with one in the local Samsung store and there's a few things that put me off but in general I'm pretty positive on it.
I'm not a fan of the fold though. I can sort of see the utility of it but I just don't use my phone in a way that needs that sort of screen.
Opinions?

I definitely think a folding phone will be in my future, but not for a few years - both for the tech to get better and for prices to go down.

I saw and played with the first flip at some mall when covid first hit and was impressed with it but it was way too much money. With this latest one I was even more impressed and with the deal sammy is doing on this right now I couldnt resist and preordered it. I traded in 2 iphone 8 phones I had laying about collecting dust and cant wait until it comes in. Unfortunately it comes on the same day that I am driving out to Vermont for vacation. Hopefully my son will hear the door!

Are you getting the flip or the fold?
I really like the flip, can't exactly say why but I really like it!

The new flip is pretty much the same price and specs as the equivalent flagship Samsung phone.
That said the equivalent flagship isn't exactly cheap!

The new Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 looks like a pretty cool phone, but that $1,800 price tag is a deal breaker for me.

Besides, you know damn well that isn't going to be under $1,000 by Christmas when it has to compete with Apple's latest iDevices. Of course, that's also around the same time where Samsung starts loading on the extra bloatware to improve their profit margins.

AFAIK foldable smartphones have a history like Swamp Castle, and this is the third generation now? IMO have a fire extinguisher handy.

The flip. Got like 400 off and got the wireless dual charger and a yellow leather case for free. The OG flip felt great in the hand a a coupla years ago and supposedly the new ones are built more solid.

I am all for the flip. I want a smaller phone in my pocket, I hate having a huge phone. Current is a 20 Ultra 5G, folded up be a bit thicker but smaller. I don't carry keys usually, I don't like things in my pocket. Keypad on front door, or garage door opener in the car. My phone is a key for my daily driver so no keys or fob needed.

I feel like I got a pretty good deal for the money. New phone, phone case, ear buds, watch and upgraded watch band for a bit over $600. Damn tax.

The fold looks nice, and these old eyes would appreciate a bigger screen. But it is just far too large to carry around. I don't carry a murse or anything, and don't want it in my pocket.

The jury's still out on foldables as resilient devices, but the new generation has me leaning "yea" more than "nay" overall.

The Z Flip 3 still makes the most sense if you have a smartwatch, but I like the thought of a fairly discreet phone that only reaches full size when you really need it. That and you'll have a way to satisfyingly slam your phone shut after a phone call, of course.

The previous gens turned me off. I will watch to see if this gen turns things around for foldables.

I remember the flip phones of yesteryear. I wore mine in a "belt holster" rather than stick it in a pocket. I ripped the top part off twice when it came open while wearing it.
sure, it was covered by insurance, but it was still a pita. I went back the "candy bar" phones. Not sure I'll take the chance on another flip/fold phone...although the old "belt holster" thing seems to have more or less gone away.

If they make a foldable as thin as a standard phone I would get one, right now they're still too bulky for my comfort.

I was done with holsters when the one I had got hooked on my seat belt. It sent my clam shell phone flying. I went to the Moto Razr not long after that. I've put my phones in my right pants pocket since. I need to see what this new flip looks like folded. It looks to thick folded in pics.

Nay, not looking to spend more on phones with more complexity and failure points. I just need something that fits in my pockets without special clothing considerations, which I already have. 2 or 3 phones ago I downsized to make that happen.

I just bought a surface duo. Got the 128GB for $389 at buydig. Was replacing a nearly dead LG XVenture. Showed up on friday. There was a bit of a learning curve to the gestures, and figuring things out, but I'm loving it. The multitasking is great, and the dual screens are real nice. Im not much of a picture guy, so the single camera limitations people gripe about dont bother me. Havnt had any lockups or slowdowns so far. Seems pretty solid. That being said, I would have never paid the original MSRP for it.
