It's all about going for your 6 month check ups. When I moved away from home, I didn't got for 2 years or so and I had 8 cavities. You just gotta get the check ups on time.

maybe it was the acid reflux. Might wanna see your doctor about that because there is medication for this disease (yes it is a disease and there should be no reason why you have to put up with it any longer)

i do take medication...a lot actually (60mg prevacid, 300mg zantac), but it still doesn't help 100%.

I find it curious that Desk has been asked repeatedly about his oral hygiene practices, and ignores the question.

No cavities for me since I was like 6 or so. But I do and always have brushed at least 3-4x a day -- more if I eat some nasty sugary stuff.

LOL.

Call it aging.

I had the same issue. I didn't have cavities for years then some time in my mid 20s I went to the dentist and had tons of cavities and had to get 4 root canals. Ugh. Cost me over $10K total for all the problems. It was so bad my dentist was asking me to play golf with him because I became such a good patient.

Plaque becomes tarter in under 24 hours. It starts eating your teeth in under 5.

Brushing 3 times a day, and flossing daily is the only way to ensure fewer cavities and prevent tartar buildup.

Telling teens never seems to set in. They all feel invincible. It isn't until their twenties, when their teeth are not nearly as strong, that they realize too late how important daily flossing and 3x daily brushing is.

Also, I have experienced crooked dentists as well.

With something like this, I would get a second opinion.

get a second opinion! Some dentist fill things that aren't cavities as a way to make more money.

Agree - but not about the crooks part.
Do you have any history with this guy? I had basically the same thing happen to me in the Air Force - basically healthy teeth until I saw an Air Force dentist who told me my mouth was a disaster and did a ton of work on me (badly, I've learned in retrospect). I talked to my family dentist once after that - had been going to him for years, and he was pissed!

He said they basically drilled & filled all my "incipeants" (sp?) - these are basically things that could turn into full blown cavities, but may not. The right approach is to watch them, and drill/fill if they turn into something.

So, the fact that you have this many after years of good health makes me wonder. Get another opinion, ask if they are incipiants, ask if it wouldn't be a good idea to watch things for awhile. It's your body, insist on a good discussion of the situation.

ohh man.. people with acid reflux usually lose all their teeth.

All the patients that I've seen with acid reflux have gotten a lot of teeth extracted at one time. Better get used to the idea of dentures my friend.

Im getting all 26 fixed this coming thursday. Im 22.

$11,000

Braces caused cavieites in every single one of my teeth along the gumline, i had them from age 13 to age 17 when i pulled them off with pliars. My dentist told me at that time that i had "calcification" along the gumline which was irreversible damage that would eventually decay.

Definitely get a second opinion. When I was younger, my parents took me to a new dentist who was covered under their insurance. He told me I had 7 cavities and wanted to fill a few immediately. We told him we would think about it. I then went back to my old dentist who didn't accept my parents insurance and he told me I had no cavities.

He said the first dentist might not have been a crook but could have mistaken certain things for cavities which he knew were not, considering he was familiar with my teeth.

You are quite right.

My dentist was very happy about the bottled water craze since it contains no fluoride.

Hmm...I'm 22 and have never had any cavities either. I hope this doesn't happen in three years!

I was born with an enamel problem so in grade school i had 3 teeth worked on. Well, I've been bad and havent' gotten a checkup in 13 years.

I'm 28 and just 2 weeks ago I had to have 2 fillings replaced only. One still hurts like a bitch and I will have to go through 3 cleanings to get all the plaque off but I consider myself lucky.

As for sweets, I am not a fan of sweets, I cutout soda 99.9% but increased my juice intake so still lots of sugar. I do brush my teeth religiously each morning at least.

why is your work costing so much?

even for the white fillings (which cost about 30% more then the silver ones), the dentist quoted around $180 per cavity. that would come to less the $5000. are you getting some other work done?
