If you're trying to save some cash and have an AGP motherboard, you can pick up a refurb 6800GT 256MB from newegg for $210.

I don't know of any other reliable vendors where you can get that price refurb or not, so I went for it.

Was considering a new PCI-E system and 7800GTX, but after hearing prices and benchmarks, i think it's hard to justify not keeping my 3.2 P4 for a while and upgrading to a card with much higher FPS/dollar.

Read the reviews on the $378 PCI-E version here:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814122209

$210 AGP version is here:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814122195R

Good luck

I'd suggest waiting for more articles/reviews too, but yeah, my first impression is that I don't feel like I need to upgrade my 6800GT(@Ultra) anymore... (even at the high resolution I play at)

Caveat emptor: refurbs, even from Newegg, are not guaranteed to function properly.

Not true -

Newegg refurbs can be returned if they do not work within 15 days.

The only thing they don't stand behind is the accessories like CD's, cables, packaging, etc. which I would give up all of anyway for this price.

If they don't work you just get your money back then you have to buy new.

i wonder what the percentage of the re-furbs are simply non-oc'ers. people get the card thinking its an easy ultra and no dice, ship it back.

Ah but do they pay for the shipping? On my newegg RMA for a powersupply I had to pay $12 to ship it back to them and then add a 15% restocking fee, ended up paying about 40% the cost of the item anyhow.

6800GTs go for not much more over $200 on ebay too. I'll be listing on soon now that I'm retiring that system. It cost $450 10 months ago.

The only thing I am concerned on that card is the Open GL Spec says its 1.5 while most other cards show 2.0.

But I guess we all agree there doesnt appear to be any significance to upgrade.

Does anyone know if its possible too unlock the four other pipes?

If so I'd be quite interested in purchasing this over the 6800 vanilla.

All 16 pipes are already enabled on the 6800GT...

Does the 6800 PCIE cars have working WMV9 acceleration?

was thinking about the 6800G, or the X800 series..

It should have a fully functional PVP.

6800GT on both AGP and PCIe doesn't have a fully functional PVP, AFAIK. Only the newer cores do. The PCIe 6800GT uses the same core as the original AGP 6800U and GT, just with a bridge chip.

AFAIK.

No it doesn't. PCIe 6800 is NV41, not NV40.

All of what he said was correct. The GT/Ultra are bridged to PCI-E via an NV45 chip thus losing the PCI-E bandwidth benefits on the way. He never said anything about the PCI-E 6800. The PCI-E 6800NU does have a fully working decoder chip and I've confirmed this (both MPEG-2 and WMV HD).

OpenGL is almost irrelevant these days. How many games are made based on it now? Doom3 and it's few licensees. What else?
