Don't bother with a monitor, get a 1080p HDTV with VGA in or whatever and use it as the monitor.

Have fun trying to spend over $10000 on a regular desktop. If you really want to spend that much, you'll have to spend it on very expensive software, not hardware. You can build a top of the line system, hardware-wise, for around $4000 at most if you don't overclock.

Welcome to AT.

If this is going to be a combination system with movies/HD being a priority, it will be easy to spend that much.

As a general guideline I would think that ~$3k on the actual computer would be plenty. With the $7k you have left, you can buy an excellent display (or multiple displays like I use... a couple high res monitors and then a nice big display for movie watching) and a very nice sound system.

CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo E6600

GPU: Geforce 8800GTS or 8800GTX

RAM: I'd say 2GB of DDR2, but with your budget, maybe just get 4GB (2x2GB).

DVD: If you want a SATA drive, this Samsung seems to be popular. If PATA is ok, I've had good luck with NEC burners. Then again, your budget allows for a Plextor drive. I think you'd be happy with any of them.

Keyboard/Mouse: Personal preference will be a factor, I'd say pick out a wireless keyboard and mouse from Logitech or Microsoft.

That's a waste of 10 grand. You can build a nice machine for $2000 - $2500. Use the rest to build a new PC in 1-2 years when your current PC is obsolete.

A top-of-the line machine should only run about $4000 if you simply buy the "best" in every category. That's not counting the display, of course. Personally, I think it's a terrible waste of money to buy the top-end models for everything as the price-to-performance ratio generally isn't as good and components like video cards will still be obselete in a year or two regardless of how much you spend on one today.

He can get a QX6700, 4GB of OCZ flex or the new dominator line, sli 8800GTX, 4 150GB raptors, a wytron dvd399 (hey, why not?), 9 burners (not sure what the best ones are now), a stacker STC-t01, the new pc p&c single rail 1kw psu, hmmmm, so much. There's a name for the those keyboards with true n key rollover (i think they are more than 200$), can't remember the name and can't find it on google (all I remember is it's the "professional" version of "something"). Anyway, it's ridiculous to spend that much on a computer.

Like others have said, spend 2k-3k range and give the rest to the poor and hungry. Pay for some of those kids you see on TV.

I think the bulk of the budget will be spent on display and some of you are missing that requirement. It's a dual use display. HDTV and PC monitor.

The 9 burners thing was a joke made my someone recommending parts, just to drain the $10,000. He didn't request that many.

For that money, I will just give you approximate prices.

Case: Silverstone TJ09B-W $300
PSU: Silverstone Zeus 750W $200

Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600: $900
Motherboard: ASUS P5N32-E SLI: $300
RAM:2GB DDR2 800 Crucial Ballistix RAM $290

GPU: Geforce 8800GTX $550
Sound Card: Auzentech X-Meridian $180

HDD1: Western Digital Raptor 150GB 10,000rpm $220
HDD2: Two 500GB Western Digital 7,200rpm drives. $300 for your raw video

Run the 500GB drives off an Areca RAID controller $300

Monitor: The updated 30" Dell UltraSharp 3007WFP-HC $1700

So far, we've spent $5240 Let's bring it up to $6000 with a few peripherals (a multi-function printer/scanner/copier, optical drives etc, keyboard, mouse etc.), shipping, taxes.

With the rest of the money, get a decent receiver like the Denon AVR-3806 That's another $1K. ...and the rest on some nice speakers from Axiom Audio, Paradigm, Monitor Audio or your brand of choice. There are others who know much more than me about speakers.

He knows who he is

Edit: forgot to throw in SLI for the 2560x1600 behemoth. Add another $550 to the rig price.

Whats funny is all you el cheapo people who would buy the cheapest.

Some people have that kind of disposable incomew and wish to have a top of the line computer. Even if there are cheaper parts that will do the same stuff just fine!!

Same as myself when it comes to power supplies....
I understand that my PC Power & Cooling is an expensive piece of equipment and as such there are pother PSU`s that can do the same job for lesser dollars....but thats not the point....

The point is this is disposable income......

Wish I had 10,000 disposable income....

That rig in your sig is amazing. But why such a low-end video card? Waiting for ATI's DX10 cards? Also, you must have a pretty high paying job huh? I envy you, haha.

You will have problems spending that much money. Not that I'm saying you can't afford it, but there's nothing to buy once you hit a certain point. May as well start assembling your home theater.

Best way to spend that money is to paypal it to me. I will build you something special and pocket the rest as profit.
