it'd be nice if this helped with all of the millions of metric tons of eWaste lying around all over the place... but will most likely make things worse. these companies seriously need to start giving a damn about their obsolete "built-to-be-thrown-away" products. Apple is the biggest offender IIRC

I have, and spent many hours researching. Take the 10+ thousand (average) per state that could be working that are on some sort of government aid/not working, and your problem is solved.
What does your crystal ball propose for skill training

In a larger sense this announcement should leave the parts of the country not part of a large MSA where skilled labor can be gotten with deep skepticism about the promises Trump has made. Those small rust belt towns not in the near orbit of one are out of luck no matter what he says.

Great news for you guys. Does the area have big enough labour force for basic task? Install battery into the chassis for example. In China they have boat load of workers for those basic task working at a super fast pace.

Good news if true. See similar Harrisburg announcement in 2013. Never materialized. Also, this has apparently been in the works for better part of a year. Not tRUmp's doing.

At what point do GOP governors and GOP controlled state legislatures grow tired of some Fed Gubmint orange buffoon taking credit for all their accomplishments? Do they just enjoy bending over??

I believe it's been stated that the proposed plant will make LCDs for Sharp TVs. A relatively easy product to avoid if you were so inclined.
Those are typically super automated plants. Need someone to turns the light on now and then to see if things are working ok.

Reasons why productivity has skyrocketed while employing fewer people overall.

I hope it brings jobs, but I expect that if it ever gets built, it will be more of a productive testbed for one of their future, fully-automated factories. 3000 jobs for robots. hooray!

and it's not like Walker is friendly to workers, so it will have to be a minimum or lower-waged, non-union type of gig for any fleshy humans that are hired for the floor.

hooray!

Great news. The more better paying jobs, the better and I'm all for more manufacturing (especially advanced manufacturing).

Edit: Damn, if then numbers are right, that place 2.5 times the size of the Camry/Lexus plant in Georgetown, KY? What the hell are they making that needs that much space? That's freaking huge!!!

hmm, probably another internal city like their big factory in China....makes me wonder if Walker is going to let them import their own laborers, as well. Keep them on the grounds, sell the territory to China so they can skirt US labor laws.

I'm sure most of them own stock in Unilever or johnson+johnson. Just buy KY or vaseline, it's like you're paying yourself

Let's hope that they design and build the equipment for the place here instead of China. Many Japanese factories build much of their equipment in Japan and import it here along with the engineers and skilled trades people to set it up and get it going. I suspect that will be the same here but hope I'm wrong. The article stated that there would be 13,000 workers, IIRC.

Toyota is set up as a 'foreign trade zone' but does use American workers along with many Japanese workers. Many of the Japanese owned factories that support Toyota are full of Japanese workers (especially engineers, management, etc) to go along with American workers.

It's very well possible that this will happen to the Foxcon plant (site) as well.

While I hope for the best, I'm deeply skeptical of the 13,000 number. Is this the number of direct employees proposed or is this the number of jobs created determined with a bullshit multiplier?

For large projects in my fair city, it is not uncommon for proponents to use a multiplier of ten and as high as sixteen, even when the base project promises low to middling wage jobs.

3K initial jobs, "up to" 13K if the entire project is built. The state is touting 10K construction jobs over 4 years for full build and 20K indirect jobs.

With more reading the entire $3B sweetener is only payable if they hit 13K, so only $230K per job if fully realized. Still...whatta deal lol.

While I understand being skeptical, I do know that sometimes these 'sweetheart' tax deals pay off in big way. I know I keep bringing up Toyota but the amount of jobs both direct and indirect as well as the revenue (both private as well as generated tax revenue) has far more than paid for the tax breaks that they received. This deal is obviously much more than the Toyota deal so it will take time to shake out. I sincerely hope it booms and does GREAT!!!

Sometimes being the operative word. Lots of states have promised big bucks for stuff that never materialized.

These are really distracting one offs that don't actually address the much larger issues in the economy.

Great news for Wisconsin, although the proof of the pudding will be in the wage scales being set for the facility and where the top and middle management that sets the culture of the place will come from. Maybe a promo run by the state might help with something like Wisconsin jobs for Wisconsinites, along with FOXCONN creating apprenticeship programs in the state that feeds the job requirements the company needs.

And it will also be quite interesting to witness how the state government keeps the unions out of that production plant and how the unions are planning to overcome that opposition.

Seriously? Are you saying people in China picked up off the streets, with often less education, are more qualified?
Seriously? Are you saying you know everyone is?

Answer my question. Where's the skill training coming from?

Foxconn isn't stupid. Wisconsin taxpayers better pay up big or they will bail. LCD screens are a commodity, final cost is all that matters.

You stated that no one is educated enough to be placed in this position. I'm not the one that will require documentation, or proof of evidence that everyone is stupid.

Seriously do you not understand these plants will be highly automated unlike plants in China? The employee skill level required will be significantly higher on average than a plant in China.

No I didn't. I asked where your crystal ball proposes skill training will come from.

Directly related to your statements of welfare and food stamps.
