How quickly should the string pass if it is going to pass on its own? Did the vet tell you?
just out of curiousity, what kind of string is it? was it like a dental floss type of string made of some type of nylon?
or more fuzzy stype of cotton / yarn string that could be pulled from a frayed blanket? i ask because we have this frayed blanked that the cats snuggle up with us on. they haven't been biting it yet but it may well occur.
holy crap. did he eat a huge amount?it is thread... like a sewing thread.

Just keep a very close eye on your kitty. If things get worse, don't hesitate. Don't wait.
Also, is closet sleeping normal, or would you consider that hiding? If it's hiding, it means the cat isn't feeling well.
WE HAVE POOP!!!
My wife "dissected" one of the turds, and there was "something" in it she said. It wasn't much of a deuce she said, but a few little nuggets.
Vet said its good, but not out of the woods yet.

I've actually had the opposite work better for me. We had a four year old golden retriever when we got a kitten and they got along great. They even would nuzzle up with each other. Now we have two different cats and got a labradoodle over a year ago. The dog just wants to play with the cats but the cats are having nothing to do with that. We keep whatever room the dog is in fenced off from the rest of the house. The family room/kitchen gate has a little door for the cats if they do want to come in while the dog is in. Our girl cat will and will hang out a little until the dog runs over and gets up in her business. We're just waiting really for the dog to mellow out a little. She's still really a puppy at heart and just wants to play.Cats are territorial. If they are there first and have been for some time, they often don't take well to sharing their space with another animal unless that animal is completely subservient to them. There are exceptions, but this is generally the case.
If the OP got a puppy, the puppy would learn to defer to the cat and the cat would most likely accept the pup, as many pet animals give a pass to other juvenile pets, even of other species. Again, there are exceptions.
WE HAVE CRAP!.... WITH STRING!
